    Abstract
    This thesis is entitled"Betrayal in a Marriage as Portrayed inThe Great Gatsby andBelenggu: A Comparative LiteratureAnalysis". It is about literature study. Both of the novels are written by American and Indonesian authors, namely F. Scott Fitzgerald and Armijn Pane. This thesis talking about the comparison of both of the novels that have different cultures and nations, and are written at same times, The Great Gatsby was written in 1925 and Belenggu in 1940. And the theory that I used by RajaliKasim in SastraBandingan: RuangLingkupdanMetode and by Warren and Wellek in Theory of Literature. The purposes of the research are (1) to expose how betrayal is demonstrated in the both of the novels and (2) to expose the differences and similarities between the novels. This thesis applied descriptive qualitative method of Meleong. Steps in this research include read both of the findings, collecting data, analysis data, and phase conclusion of this paper are: Betrayal can happened in a family because of many motifs, like the third person, money, miscommunication, and no more honesty between husband and wife.
     
    Skripsi ini berjudul "Betrayal in a Marriage as Portrayed inThe Great Gatsby andBelenggu: A Comparative LiteratureAnalysis" ini merupakan sebuah kajian ilmu sastra. Kedua novel ini di tulisolehsastrawanAmerikaSerikatdan Indonesia, merekaadalah F. Scott Fitzgerald danArmaijn Pane.Skripsiiniberisiperbandingankedua novel yang berbedabudayadannegara, yang waktupenulisankedua novel inijugapadamasaabad yang sama, yaituThe Great Gatsbyoleh F. Scott Fitzgerald padatahun 1925danBelengguolehArmijn Pane pada 1940. Adapun teori yang mendukung skripsi ini adalah teori yang dikemukakan oleh RajaliKasimdalambukuSastraBandingan: RuangLingkupdanMetodedan Warren danWellekdalambukuTheory of Literature. Tujuandarikajianinimeliputi (1) Untukmengetahuisebabterjadinyaperselingkuhan di kedua novel dan (2) Untukmengetahuipersamaandanperbedaan di antarakedua novel.Skripsi ini menerapkan metode deskriftifkualitatifdariMeleong. Tahap-tahap yang dilalui dalam penelitian ini meliputi tahap membacakedua novel, tahap pengumpulan data dananalisis data, dan tahap penarikan kesimpulan. HasilnyaadalahPerselingkuhanterjadipadakeluarga yang tidakharmonis yang disebabkanolehbanyak motif, seperti orang ketiga, uang, komunikasi yang burukdantidakadanyakejujuranantarasuami-istri.
