The thesis is entitled Magic Power to Get Wealth as Portrayed in The Folklore The Fisherman and His Wife and Hanasaka Jiisan: A Comparative Literature. It analyzes about the similarities and differences of magic power to get wealth as portrayed in two folklores, they are The Fisherman and His Wife and Hanasaka Jiisan. The folklore The Fisherman and His Wife is from Germany, while the folklore Hanasaka Jiisan is from Japan. Nowadays, a lot of people try to get wealth in the right way or even use the magic power. It is easier for someone to look for wealth with magic power. Therefore, most people tend to be greedy of something which is related with wealth. Cultures were found in the two folklores which tell how greediness can destroy a person's life. According to these explanations, there are two problems they are how the differences and similarities of magic power to get wealth as portrayed in the folklore The Fisherman and His Wife and Hanasaka Jiisan. To solve the problems, the writer used the theory of comparative literature which compares two literary works of different cultures and languages. After doing research, there are four similarities of both of folklores, they are: magic power, ritual magic, motif, and function. And there are four differences of both of folklores, they are: cultures, magical belief, the root of greediness, and the kind of desire. Folklore The Fisherman and His Wife berasal dari Jerman, sedangkan folklore Hansaka Jiisan berasal dari Jepang. Pada saat ini banyak orang berusaha mendapatkan hartadengan cara yang benar hingga memanfaatkan kekuatan magis. Dengan kekuatan magis, membuat seseorang lebih mudah dalam mencari harta. Maka dari itu, kebanyakan orang cenderung tamak apabila sudah dikaitkan dengan harta. Fenomena tersebut ditemukan dalam dua folklore yang menceritakan bagaimana ketamakan dapat merusak hidup seseorang. Dari penjelasan tersebut, terdapat dua masalah, yaitu bagaimana perbedaan dan persamaan The Fisherman and His Wife dan Hanasaka Jiisan. Untuk menyelesaikan kedua masalah tersebut, digunakan teori comparative literature yang mana membandingkan dua karya sastra yang berbeda budaya maupun bahasa. Setelah dilakukan penelitian, terdapat empat persamaan dari kedua folklore tersebut, antara lain: kekuatan magis, ritual magis, motif, dan fungsi. Dan terdapat empat perbedaan dari folklore tersebut, antara lain: kebudayaan, bentuk kepercayaan terhadap hal magis, faktor ketamakan, dan jenis ketamakan.
