    Modifikasi Tanah Tiruan dari Ampas Ubi Kayu (Mannihot esculenta) Disalut (Coating) Kitosan Sebagai Media Tanam

    Abstract
    Penelitian tentang pembuatan media tanam dari ampas ubi kayu telah dilakukan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah membuat tanah tiruan dari ampas ubi kayu yang mengandung pupuk NPK disalut (coating) kitosan. Variasi kitosan sebagai coating 1%, 1,5%, 2% dan 2,5%. Optimasi % kitosan sebagai coating yang baik adalah kitosan 2,5%. Tanah tiruan dikarakterisasi dengan Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), kandungan dan pelepasan pupuk ditetapkan menggunakan Kjeldahl dan Spektrofotometer Serapan Atom (SSA), gugus fungsi dari selulosa dan kitosan sebagai coating diuji dengan Spektroskopi Fourier Transform Infrared. Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan tanah tiruan non coating mempunyai pori-pori lebih banyak dibanding dengan tanah tiruan coating kitosan 2,5%. Tanah tiruan direndam selama 7, 14, 21, 28 hari untuk pengujian pelepasan pupuk. Pelepasan pupuk nitrogen, fosfor dan kalium pada tanah tiruan non coating kitosan pada minggu pertama besar dan semakin kecil pada minggu berikutnya sedangkan pada tanah tiruan coating kitosan 2,5% pada minggu pertama kecil dan meningkat pada minggu berikutnya atau pelepasan pupuknya lambat (slow fertilizer release). Hal ini disebabkan karena kitosan menutupi pori-pori pada tanah tiruan sehingga menghalangi pelepasan pupuk keluar dari tanah tiruan.
     
    Planting media from dregs of cassava has been established. The objective of this research was to produce artificial ground containing fertilizer NPK coated by chitosan. Chitosan was varying 1%, 1,5%, 2%, 2,5% as coat. Good chitosan optimization percentage as coating was 2.5%. Artificial ground were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), the content and release of fertilizer determined using the Kjeldahl and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), the functional group of cellulose and chitosan as coating tested by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The results showed that non-coating artificial ground have more pores compared with 2.5% chitosan coating artificial ground. Artificial ground soaked for 7, 14, 21, 28 days for testing release fertilizer. The release of fertilizer such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in non- coating chitosan artificial ground on first week increase and decrease next week, while the 2,5% chitosan coated beads on first week was tiny and increased next week or slow (slow release fertilizer). This was cause by chitosan that covered the pores of the artificial ground thus blocking the release of the fertilizer out of the artificial ground.
