The Description of Metaphor Found in Coldplay’s Song Lyrics

Abstract

This paper is entitled The Description of Metaphor found in Coldplay’s Song Lyrics discusses about the types and meaning of metaphor used in the lyrics of Coldplay. In writing this paper, the writer used the library research method.The writer collects the data from Coldplay’s lyrics, interpret the metaphor and the last get the conclusion. In this paper, the writer only devided the metaphor into hyperbole, simile and personification. In Coldplay’s song lyrics, the writer found 35 metaphors that consist of 25 hyperboles, 7 similes and 3 personifications. Finally, can be concluded that the dominant type is hyperbole and followed by simile and personification.

Kertas karya yang berjudul The Description of Metaphor Found in Coldplay’s Song Lyrics ini membahas tentang jenis dan makna metafora yang digunakan pada lirik lagu Coldplay Dalam penulisan kertas karya ini, penulis menggunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan. Penulis mengumpulkan data metafora yang digunakan dalam lirik-lirik Coldplay, menginterpretasikan metafora dan terakhir mendapatkan kesimpulan. Pada kertas karya ini, penulis hanya mengkaji metafora jenis hiperbola, simile, dan personifikasi. Dalam lirik lagu Coldplay, penulis menemukan 35 metafora yan terdiri dari 25 hiperbola, 7 simile, dan 3 personifakasi. Akhirnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa jenis hiperbola yang dominant yang diikuti oleh simile dan personifikasi.
