The Description of Affixes Used in Hayes’s Novel Trafficked

Abstract

A paper entitled “The Description of Affixes Used in Hayes’s Novel Trafficked” discussed about affixation process that was one of the process in Morphology. In English, there are 3 types of affixes, that is prefix, suffix, and infix but there is no infix in English. So in this paper the writer only discussed about prefix and suffix. The objectives of this research were: 1. To find the number of prefixes and suffixes found in the novel. 2. To show the most dominant of affix found in the novel. The scope of this research was using of prefixes and suffixes based on their form, distribution, and function. The source data were Trafficked Novel by Sophie Hayes from chapter 1-5. Data were all kinds of prefixes and suffixes found in the novel. The method of research applied is descriptive qualitative. Findings showed that there were 4 kinds of prefixes, namely un-, in-, dis-, and re- totally 32 words and 6 kinds of suffixes, namely -ly, -er, -ness, -less, -ed, and -al totally 91 words. The most dominant affix in the novel was suffix.

Kertas karya yang berjudul “The Description of Affixes Used in Hayes’s Novel Trafficked” membahas tentang proses afiksasi (imbuhan) yang merupakan salah satu proses dalam morpologi. Di dalam bahasa inggris, terdapat 3 jenis afiksasi (awalan, sisipan, akhiran) tapi sisipan tidak ada dalam bahasa inggris. Jadi di dalam kertas karya ini penulis hanya menjelaskan tentang awalan dan akhiran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: 1. Untuk menemukan jumlah afiksasi awalan dan akhiran di dalam novel. 2. Untuk menunjukkan jenis afiksasi yang lebih dominan di dalam novel. Batasan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah penggunaan afiksasi awalan dan akhiran berdasarkan bentuk, distribusi dan fungsinya. Sumber datanya adalah Trafficked Novel dari Sophie Hayes bab 1-5. Data merupakan semua bentuk awalan dan akhiran yang ditemukan didalam novel. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 4 jenis prefix (awalan) yaitu un-,in-,dis-, dan re- dengan jumlah 32 kata, dan 6 jenis suffix (akhiran) yaitu -ly, -er, -ness, -less, -ed, and al dengan jumlah 91 kata. Jenis afiksasi yang lebih dominan dalam novel ini adalah suffix (akhiran).
