Kajian Makna Semiotik dan Nilai Budaya pada Bangunan Masjid Cheng Hoo di Palembang

Abstract

This bachelor thesis titled "Study of Values and Semiotics Culture On the Cheng Hoo Mosque Building in Palembang." The purpose of this study is to solve the problem formulation as follows: (1) What are the meaning of semiotic that can be examined and understood in each element of the building or ornament in the Mosque Cheng Hoo Palembang? and (2) what cultural values that are located on each element of the mosque building Cheng Hoo Palembang. To study the problems of semiotic meaning the authors use semiotic theory of culture by Sander Pierce. As for knowing the value of cultural authors use the theory of cultural values. The methods and techniques used in this research is a descriptive method and qualitative method, the technique is based on the documentation, informant interviews, literature studies, field studies or observations and analyzing or sorting data. The results obtained from this research is: (1) on the study of meaning cultural semiotics contained in the Mosque building of Cheng Hoo Palembang are as follows: (i) the mosque function as a place of worship as well as a social and cultural activities, (ii) the dome as identity of Islamic buildings which acculturative, (iii) the symbol of the moon and the stars as an update and Islamic unity, (iv) octagonal star as a symbol of the philosophy Buddhism and Islam, (v) the tower resembles pagoda as a sign of "Hablum Minallah and Hablum Minannas", (vi) the red color symbol of the spirit, the green color symbol of the wealthy and the gold color symbol of luck, (vii) the drum as a form of cultural assimilation between China and Islam, (viii) pillar of the mosque as a symbol of luck because there are eight, (ix) roof Limas as the characteristic of the tribe Palembang, (x) gate as the entrance to the peace of the soul, (xi) the meaning of the door as the main road and symbol of the empire China (xii) the name board of the mosque refers to Admiral Cheng Hoo. (2) From the analysis of cultural values was in the Mosque building of Cheng Hoo Palembang is: (i) the spiritual value, (ii) the value of cultural identity, (iii) the aesthetic value, (iv) the value of humanity, and (v) social value.

Skripsi ini berjudul “Kajian Nilai Dan Semiotik Budaya Pada Bangunan Masjid Cheng Hoo Di Palembang.” Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelesaikan rumusan masalah sebagai berikut: (1) Apa saja makna semiotik yang dapat dikaji dan dipahami pada setiap unsur bangunan atau ornamen di Masjid Cheng Hoo Palembang? dan (2) Apa saja nilai budaya yang terdapat pada setiap unsur bangunan Masjid Cheng Hoo Palembang. Untuk mengkaji permasalahan makna semiotik penulis memakai teori semiotik budaya oleh Sander Pierce. Sedangkan untuk mengetahui nilai budaya yang ada penulis memakai teori nilai budaya. Metode dan teknik yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode deskriptif dan metode kualitatif, dengan berdasar kepada teknik dokumentasi, wawancara informan, studi kepustakaan, studi lapangan atau observasi dan menganalisis atau memilah data. Hasil temuan yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) dari kajian makna semiotik budaya yang terdapat dalam bangunan Masjid Cheng Hoo Palembang ini yaitu sebagai berikut: (i) masjid berfungsi sebagai tempat ibadah serta tempat kegiatan sosial dan kebudayaan, (ii) kubah sebagai identitas bangunan Islam yang akulturatif, (iii) simbol bulan dan bintang sebagai pembaruan dan persatuan islam, (iv) bintang segi delapan sebagai simbol filosofi agama Buddha dan Islam, (v) menara menyerupai pagoda sebagai tanda “Hablum Minallah dan Hablum Minannas”, (vi) warna merah simbol semangat, warna hijau simbol makmur dan warna emas simbol keberuntungan, (vii) bedug sebagai bentuk asimilasi budaya antara Cina dan islam, (viii) tiang masjid sebagai simbol keberuntungan karena berjumlah delapan, (ix) atap limas sebagai ciri khas suku Palembang, (x) gerbang sebagai pintu masuk ketenangan jiwa, (xi) makna pintu sebagai jalan utama dan lambang kekaisaran Cina (xii) tulisan nama masjid merujuk kepada laksamana Cheng Hoo. (2) Dari analisis nilai budaya yang ada dalam bangunan Masjid Cheng Hoo Palembang ini adalah: (i) nilai spiritual, (ii) nilai identitas budaya, (iii) nilai estetika, (iv) nilai kemanusiaan, dan (v) nilai sosial.
