    Morphophonemic Process Found in Selected Motivational Short Stories

    Abstract
    This thesis entitled Morphophonemic Process Found in Selected Motivational Short Stories. It deals with morphology of English concerning morphophonemic process in motivational short stories. The morphophonemic process included regressive assimilation, progressive assimilation and loss of final vowel. This thesis is used a morphophonemic process theory by Eugene A. Nida. The objectives of this study were to find out and describe the kinds of morphophonemic processes were used in motivational short stories and to find out the most dominant morphophonemic process that used in motivational short stories. In analysing the data, the writer combined two branches of linguistics such as morphology and phonology because morphophonemic process talking about morphology and phonology. Besides, the writer used purposive sampling method to limit the number of data and descriptive qualitative method in analysing the data. Based on the data analysis, the writer found three 2 kinds of morphophonemic process. They were progressive assimilation and loss of final vowel . From the analysis, the total number of morphemes that have morphophonemic process was 63 morphemes. The number of progressive assimilation process was 50 morphemes or 79.36% and loss of final vowel was 13 morphemes or 20.63% and. The most dominant morphophonemic process in those motivational short stories was progressive assimilation. Regressive assimilation was not found from those motivational short stories.
     
    Skripsi ini berjudul Morphophonemic Process Found in Selected Motivational Short Stories. Ini merupakan suatu kajian morfologi Bahasa Inggris yang membahas tentang proses morfofonemik dalam cerita pendek yang memotivasi. Proses morfofonemik ini mencakup asimilasi regresif, asimilasi progresif dan penghilangan vocal akhir. Skripsi ini menggunakan teori proses morfofonemik oleh Eugene A. Nida. Tujuan dari penetilian ini adalah untuk menemukan dan mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis proses morfofonemik yang digunakan dalam cerita pendek yang memotivasi dan untuk menemukan proses morfofonemik yang paling dominan digunakan dalam cerita pendek yang memotivasi. Dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggabung dua cabang ilmu linguistik seperti morfologi dan fonologi karena proses morfofonemik membahas tentang morfologi dan fonologi. Selain itu, penulis menggunakan metode purposive sampling untuk membatasi jumlah data dan metode deskriftif kualitatif dalam menganalisis data. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, penulis menemukan 2 jenis proses morfofonemik. Proses tersebut adalah progresif asimilasi dan penghilangan fonem akhir. Dari analisis tersebut, jumlah data keseluruhan yang mengalami proses morfofonemik sebanyak 63 kata. Jumlah data yang mengalami proses asimilasi progresif sebanyak 50 kata atau 79.36% dan penghilangan vocal akhir sebanyak 13 kata atau 20.36%. Proses morfofonemik yang paling dominan dalam cerita pendek yang memotivasi tersebut adalah asimilasi progresif. Asimilasi regresi tidak terdapat dalam cerita pendek tersebut.
