Ideational Grammatical Metaphor on Scientific Discourse in Bilingual Biology Textbook

Abstract

This thesis entitled “Ideational Grammatical Metaphor on Scientific Discourse in Bilingual Biology Textbook”. This research was conducted to explain in detail the result of analyzing ideational grammatical metaphor on scientific discourse and explain the way scientific discourse as used in the bilingual biology textbook. In the analysis of biological textbook, it can be found five types of process transivity system from seven of them, they are: Material process (the process of doing), mental process (the process of sensing), relational process (the process of being), behavioral process (the process of psychology), and existential process (the process of represent something exist). From fifty chosen phrases that has been analyzed as the main research, Relational Process got the highest point that using in transivity system. Meanwhile, for the lexicogrammatical, there are many types of words arrangement, such noun phrase, verb phrase, preposition clause that convert to nominalization in which nominalization itself is the basic point in analyzing ideational grammatical metaphor.

Tesis ini berjudul “Metafora Gramatikal Ideasional tentang Wacana Ilmiah dalam Buku Teks Biologi Bilingual”. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menjelaskan secara terperinci hasil analisis metafora tata bahasa ideasional pada wacana ilmiah dan menjelaskan cara wacana ilmiah seperti yang digunakan dalam buku teks biologi bilingual. Dalam analisis buku teks biologi, dapat ditemukan lima jenis proses system transiviti dari tujuh di antaranya, yaitu: Proses material (proses melakukan), proses mental (proses penginderaan), proses relasional (proses menjadi), proses perilaku (proses psikologi), dan proses eksistensial (proses merepresentasikan sesuatu ada). Dari lima puluh frase yang dipilih yang telah dianalisis sebagai penelitian utama, Proses Relasional mendapatkan poin tertinggi yang digunakan dalam sistem transiviti. Sementara itu, untuk leksikogrammatical, ada banyak jenis susunan kata, seperti frasa nomina, frasa kata kerja, klausa preposisi yang berubah menjadi nominalisasi di mana nominisasi itu sendiri adalah titik dasar dalam menganalisis metafora tata bahasa ideasional.
