Meaning of Life on the Leading Character in Mansell’s Three Amazing Things About You and Oesman’s 728 Hari : A Comparative Literature Analysis

Abstract

This thesis entitled "Meaning of Life on the Leading Character in Mansell’s Three Amazing Things about You and Oesman’s 728 Hari: A Comparative Literature Analysis". This thesis discusses about meaning of life that can be seen by three areas of activity. There are two problems that focused in this thesis; meaning of life portrayed in the novel Three Amazing Things about You by Jill Mansell and 728 Hari by Djono W. Oesman and the similarities and the differences of meaning of life portrayed in the novel Three Amazing Things about You by Jill Mansell and 728 Hari by Djono W. Oesman. The method of research that is used in this thesis is qualitative method. Novel Three Amazing Things about You by Jill Mansell and 728 Hari by Djono W. Oesman are the primary source of data by using theory logotherapy by Viktor Emil Frankl and theory comparative literature which is will be compare in this study. The purpose of this thesis is to find out how meaning of life and how the similarities and the differences of meaning of life are portrayed in the novel Three Amazing Things about You by Jill Mansell and 728 Hari by Djono W. Oesman. From this research it is found that meaning of life can be proved from three areas of activity that potentially contain values, they are, creative values, experiential values and attitudinal values that portrayed in both of novels, and the similarities and differences of meaning of life on the leading character in both of novels.

Tesis ini berjudul "Meaning of Life on the Leading Character in Mansell’s Three Amazing Things about You and Oesman’s 728 Hari: A Comparative Literature Analysis". Tesis ini membahas tentang makna hidup yang dapat dilihat dari tiga bidang kegiatan. Ada dua masalah yang difokuskan dalam tesis ini; makna hidup digambarkan dalam novel Three Amazing Things about You oleh Jill Mansell dan 728 Hari oleh Djono W. Oesman dan persamaan dan perbedaan makna hidup yang digambarkan dalam novel Three Amazing Things about You oleh Jill Mansell dan 728 Hari oleh Djono W. Oesman. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam tesis ini adalah metode kualitatif. Novel Three Amazing Things about You oleh Jill Mansell dan 728 Hari oleh Djono W. Oesman adalah sumber utama data dengan menggunakan nilai-nilai teori makna hidup oleh Viktor Emil Frankl dan teori perbandingan literatur yang akan dibandingkan dalam penelitian ini. Tujuan dari tesis ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana makna hidup dan bagaimana persamaan dan perbedaan makna hidup digambarkan dalam novel Three Amazing Things about You oleh Jill Mansell dan 728 Hari oleh Djono W. Oesman. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa makna hidup dapat dibuktikan dari tiga bidang kegiatan yang secara potensial mengandung nilai, yaitu nilai-nilai kreatif, nilai-nilai penghayatan, dan nilai-nilai bersikap yang digambarkan dalam kedua novel, dan persamaan dan perbedaan makna hidup karakter utama pada kedua novel.
