A Description of Metaphor in Selected Poems of Rania Naim’s All the Words I Should Have Said

Abstract

This research is entitled ‘A Description of Metaphor in Selected poems of Rania Naim’s book All the Words I Should Have Said discusses about metaphor found in Rania Naim’s poems. The analyze of this study is focused on metaphor in type of animal metaphor and abstract metaphor: and meaning of each other metaphor found in 12 poems from Rania Naim’s poems, they are Loneliness, You’re Allowed to Leave, Without You, Timeless, Old Soul, What’s Inside, I wish I was a train, To Be Continued, Broken, Sunrise With You, Once Upon A Time, and The Final Play. In this research, the writer used library research method by collected metaphor data then analysed and determined the most dominant .This study uses the theory of Leech who classified metaphor into The Animal Metaphor and The Abstract Metaphor. In these lyrics of “All The Words I Should Have Said” Book, the writer found 12 metaphor consist of 1 The Animal Metaphor, 11 The Abstract Metaphor. The Abstract Metaphor turns out to be the most dominant while The Animal Metaphor is the least.

Makalah ini berjudul ‘The Description of Metaphor Found in Rania Naim’s “All The Words I Should Have Said” Buku ini membahas tentang metafora yang ada pada lirik-lirik puisi pada Buku “All The Words I Should Have Said”. Analisis penelitian ini difokuskan pada metafora dalam jenis The Animal Metaphor dan The Abstract Metaphor: dan makna dari setiap metafora yang ditemukan dalam 12 puisi dari puisi Rania Naim, mereka adalah Loneliness, You’re Allowed to Leave, Without You, Timeless, Old Soul, What’s Inside, I wish I was a train, To Be Continued, Broken, Sunrise With You, Once Upon A Time, and The Final Play. Dalam penulisan makalah ini, penulis menerapkan studi kepustakaan yaitu dengan mengumpulkan data metafora, kemudian menganalisisnya dan menentukan jenis metafora yang palig dominan.Pembagian metafora pada skripsi ini mengacu pada pendapat dari Leech yang membagi metafora menjadi The Animal Metaphor and The Abstract Metaphor. Dalam lirik-lirik puisi buku “All The Words I Should Have Said , penulis menemukan 12 metafora yang terdiri dari 1 The Animal Metaphor dan 11 The Abstract Metaphor. The Abstract Metaphor muncul sebagai jumlah yang paling dominan sedangkan The Animal Metaphor adalah jumlah yang paling sedikit.
