    Abstract
The thesis entitled “THE PROCESS OF COMPOUND WORDS USED IN MARTIN‟S NOVEL A GAME OF THRONES” is a morphological study which analyzes the process of compound words and the most dominant compound words used in Martin‟s novel A Game of Thrones. Descriptive and qualitative method is applied in this research. McCarthy (2002) theory is used in analyzing the process and kinds of compound words. Plag (2002) defines compounding (sometimes also called composition) rather loosely as the combination of two words to form a new word. The Findings show that there are three kinds of compound words used in this novel. Those are nominal compound, verbal compound, and adjectival compound. The processes of nominal compounds are formed of 3 formula. Those are „noun + noun‟, „noun + adjective‟, and „adjective + noun‟ formula. The processes of adjectival compounds are formed of „noun + adjective‟, „adjective + noun‟, „adjective + adjective‟, „adjective + present participle‟, adjective + past participle, and „noun + past participle‟, while the process of verbal compound is formed of „adjective + adjective‟. The most compound word used in Martin‟s novel A Game of Thrones is the nominal compound. It is about 60, 7% or 177 of 292 compound words in the novel. Adjectival compound is the second most used in the novel which is about 39% or 144 of 292 compound words. Verbal compound is the least used compound in the novel which is about 0, 3% or 1 0f 292 compound words in the novel.

Skripsi yang berjudul “THE PROCESS OF COMPOUND WORDS USED IN MARTIN‟S NOVEL A GAME OF THRONES” merupakan suatu kajian Morphology yang menganalisa proses pembentukan kata majemuk dan menentukan jenis kata majemuk yang paling dominan dalam novel A Game of Thrones. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisa proses dan jenis-jenis kata majemuk adalah adalah teory McCarthy (2002). Plag (2002) menyatakan bahwa kata majemuk (terkadang disebut komposisi) adalah gabungan dua kata yang membentuk satu kata baru. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan 3 jenis kata majemuk. Diantaranya adalah: Nomina, Verba, dan Adjectiva. Proses pembentukan kata majemuk Nomina adalah „noun + noun‟, „noun + adjective‟, and „adjective + noun‟.
