An Analysis of Ileana Surducan’s Silent Comic A Game of Hide and Seek

Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Narratology on Ileana Surducan‟s silent comic A Game of Hide and Seek” is a study about elements of narrative and the functions of narrator in Ileana Surducan‟s silent comic A Game of Hide and Seek. The aim of this study to find out elements of narrative and functions of narrator in Ileana Surducan‟s silent comic A Game of Hide and Seek. The main theory used in supporting this study is a theory of narrative or narratology as proposed by Genette (1980). To support this study, the researcher employed a descriptive qualitative method since the data of this study are in the forms of pictures. The result of this study indicates that there are eleven elements found in this comic from four categories, such as: Transposed Speech-Indirect Style, Heterodiegetic Narrator, Simultaneous Narration, External Focalization, Extra Diegetic, Intra Diegetic, Meta Diegetic, and Meta-meta Diegetic, Elipsis, and Iterative. For Functions of the Narrrator, Communication Function is element only found in this comic.

Thesis ini berjudul Sebuah Analisis Naratologi pada Komik Bisu Karya Ileana Surducan A Game of Hide and Seek adalah sebuah penelitian tentang elemen-elemen naratif dan fungsi-fungsi dari narator yang terdapat di komik bisu karya Ileana Surducan A Game of Hide and Seek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan elemen-elemen naratif dan fungsi-fungsi narator didalam komik bisu karya Ileana Surducan A Game of Hide and Seek. Teori utama untuk mendukung penelitiann ini adalah sebuah teori naratif atau naratologi yang digagas oleh Genette (1980). Dalam menyusun penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif karena data yang dipakai di penelitian ini berbentuk gambar-gambar. Hasil dari penelitian ini menemukan bahwa terdapat sebelas elemen yang ditemukan didalam komik ini dari empat kategori, antara lain: Transposed Speech-Indirect Style, Heterodiegetic Narrator, Simultaneous Narration, External Focalization, Extra Diegetic, Intra Diegetic, Meta Diegetic, and Meta-meta Diegetic, Elipsis, and Iterative. Untuk fungsi-fungsi narrator, Communication Function adalah elemen yang hanya ditemukan didalam komik ini.
