Incest in Sophocles’ Play Oedipus The King and I Wayan Artika’s Novel Incest: A Comparative Literature Analysis

Abstract

The title of this thesis is ―Incest in Sophocles‘s play Oedipus the king and I Wayan Artika‘s novel Incest: A Comparative Literature Analysis‖. This thesis contains a Study of Comparative Literature, between novel and the play as the main source. The purpose of this study is to find out how incest portrayed both in the novel and in the play as well as to find the similarity and the differences of incest in these literary works. This study also involves the intrinsic element to find more about how the incest portrayed. Within this thesis, the writer uses comparative analysis method which represents all the data in forms of words, sentences and also tables. As the result of the analysis, the writer gets the conclusion that both literary works had similarity and differences that is same motif of incest and different background reason for committed incest.

Skripsi ini berjudul ―Incest in Sophocles‘s play Oedipus the king and I Wayan Artika‘s novel Incest : A comparative literature analysis‖. Skripsi ini berisi tentang kajian sastra bandingan, yang mana novel dan dialog drama sebagai sumber utama bahan kajian. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan bagaimana incest tergambarkan pada dua karya sastra ini dan juga menemukan persamaan dan perbedaan pada dua karya sastra ini. Kajian ini juga melibatkan unsur intrinsik, untuk menemukan lebih jauh bagaimana gambaran incest pada dua karya sastra ini. Pada skripsi ini, penulis menggunakan metode sastra bandingan yang mana data yang ditampilkan berbentuk kata-kata, kalimat dan tabel. Sebagai hasil dari analisis ini, penulis dapat menyimpulkan bahwa pada dua karya sastra ini terdapat kesamaan dan perbedaan yakni motif incest dan ketidaksengajaan mereka berbuat incest dengan latar belakang yang berbeda.
