Abstract

Judul dari kertas karya ini adalah A Description of Leading Character’s Conflict Found in Angie Thomas’ Novel The Hate U Give. Masalah dan tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui konflik dari karakter utama yang digambarkan dalam novel. Metode yang digunakan penulis dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kepustakaan untuk mendapatkan data-data tertentu dengan mencari dan mengumpulkan beberapa buku yang berkaitan dengan Deskripsi konflik dalam karya sastra. Kemudian, penulis mengutip kalimat atau kata-kata yang menunjukkan konflik, lalu kemudian menggambarkannya. Dalam kertas karya ini, penulis menggunakan teori konflik oleh Tennyson (1967). Ia membagi konflik menjadi dua bagian, yakni konflik internal dan konflik eksternal. Deskripsi makalah ini akan menggambarkan deskripsi konflik internal Starr dan juga konflik eksternalnya dengan orang-orang sekitarnya. Starr memiliki Konflik sendiri yang ada di dalam dirinya sendiri yang dianggap sebagai konflik internal. Dan konflik dengan masyarakat atau karakter lain yang memiliki ketidaksepakatan satu sama lain yang dinamakan sebagai konflik eksternal.

The title of this paper is A Description of Leading Character's Conflict Found in Angie Thomas' Novel The Hate U Give. The problem and purpose of this study is to find out the conflict of the main characters described in the novel. The method uses by the author in this study is library research to obtain certain data by searching and collecting several books related to the description of conflict in literary works. Then, the author quotes sentences or words that indicate the conflict, then describes it. In this paper, the writer uses conflict theory by Tennyson (1967). He divided the conflict into two parts, namely internal conflict and external conflict. The description of this paper will describe a description of Starr's internal conflict and also its external conflict with those around him. Starr has its own conflicts which is within itself which is considered an internal conflict. And conflicts with other people or characters who have disagreements with each other are called external conflicts.
