A Description of Main Characters in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Novel the Strange Case of dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Abstract

This paper, entitled A Description of Main Characters in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The objective of the study is to describe the main characters in novel. The writer uses the qualitative research method in this paper. The writer reads some of books about literature and understanding the story of the novel. The writer also browsing from the internet to get some information’s about the novel to support the writer’s ideas of the related topics of this paper. And then the writer collected the data, selected them, and made conclusion. The conclusion of the book reveals that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde inhabit the same body. Dr. Jekyll is the picture of social class and professional excellence, while Mr. Hyde is the embodiment of Jekyll's otherwise hidden evil nature. Therefore this paper make the readers can get positive message that we must be able to accept every human being in terms has a bad side and good side. We must to think carefully before make a decision, we must control our desires or it will be disastrous. We must be responsible for our actions and also we as a human should not have multiple personalities.

Kertas karya ini berjudul, A Description of Main Characters in Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan karakter utama dalam novel. Penulis menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dalam tulisan ini. Penulis membaca beberapa buku tentang sastra dan memahami kisah novel. Penulis juga menelusuri dari internet untuk mendapatkan beberapa informasi tentang novel untuk mendukung ide-ide penulis tentang topik terkait makalah ini. Dan kemudian penulis mengumpulkan data, memilihnya, dan membuat kesimpulan. Kesimpulan dari buku ini mengungkapkan bahwa Dr. Jekyll dan Mr. Hyde menghuni tubuh yang sama. Dr. Jekyll adalah gambaran kelas sosial dan keunggulan profesional, sedangkan Mr. Hyde adalah perwujudan dari sifat jahat Jekyll yang tersembunyi. Oleh karena itu makalah ini membuat para pembaca dapat memperoleh pesan positif bahwa kita harus dapat menerima bahwa setiap manusia memiliki sisi buruk dan sisi baik. Kita harus berpikir dengan hati-hati sebelum membuat keputusan, kita harus mengendalikan keinginan kita atau itu akan menjadi bencana. Kita harus bertanggung jawab atas tindakan yang kita ambil dan kita sebagai manusia seharusnya tidak memiliki kepribadian ganda.
