dc.description.abstract | Waste is a problem that until now has not been handled properly in various cities in Indonesia. Along
with the rapid rate of population growth and increasing industrial activities, the production of waste
has also increased, both household and non-household waste. A good city solid waste management
system is based on generation data, composition and characteristics of waste. The generation data,
composition, and characteristics of waste are needed in designing waste management systems. For
this reason, it is necessary to conduct research on the generation, composition, and characteristics of
non-household waste in Binjai City, which includes commercial waste (markets, shops, restaurants
and hotels), institutional waste (offices, schools and hospitals), road sweep trash , shopping centers
and entertainment facilities. Determination of non-domestic waste generation is carried out by taking
garbage samples from sources according to SNI 19-3964-1994 and interviews. Sampling and
measurement of waste generation were carried out for eight consecutive days. Based on the results of
the study, the average generation of non-household waste in Binjai City in each unit is 0.153 kg /
person / day or 6.886 l / person / day, 0.054 kg / person / day or 2,231 l / org / day, school 0.015 kg /
person / day or 0.444 l / org / day, restaurant 0.097 kg / m2 / day or 3.089 l / m2 / day, market 0.181 kg
/ m2 / day or 0.026 l / m2 / day, health facilities 0.0475 kg / m2 / day or 0.078 l / m2 / day, entertainment
facilities 0.004 kg / m2 / day or 0.118 l / m2 / day, shopping center0.1035 kg / m2 / day or 0.143 l / m2 /
day, street sweeping 0.038 kg / m 2/ day or 1,931 l / m2 / day and hotel 0,192 kg / bed / day or 4,233 l /
bed / day. The average non-household waste composition produced in Binjai City is 59.04% organic
waste, 17.37% plastic waste, 14.60% paper waste, 4.34% cloth / textile waste, glass waste 1.70%,
metal waste 1.13%, other types of waste 0.96%, wood waste 0.61% and the lowest is rubber / leather
waste 0.25%. Physical characteristics in the form of specific gravity of 0.153 kg / l, water content of
27.52%, volatile content of 52.63%, ash content of 9.99%, fixed carbon content of 9.86% and heating

dc.description.abstract | Sampah merupakan sebuah permasalahan yang sampai saat ini belum dapat ditangani dengan baik di
berbagai kota di Indonesia. Seiring dengan pesatnya laju pertumbuhan penduduk dan meningkatnya
kegiatan industri menyebabkan produksi sampah juga semakin meningkat, baik itu sampah rumah
tangga maupun sampah non rumah tangga. Sistem pengelolaan persampahan kota yang baik didasari
oleh data timbulan, komposisi dan karakteristik sampah. Data timbulan, komposisi, dan karakteristik
sampah sangat diperlukan dalam merancang sistem pengelolaan persampahan. Untuk itu perlu
dilakukan penelitian tentang timbulan, komposisi, dan karakteristik sampah non rumah tangga di Kota
Binjai yang meliputi sampah komersil (pasar,toko, rumah makan, dan hotel), sampah institusi (kantor,
sekolah, dan rumah sakit), sampah sapuan jalan, pusat perbelanjaan dan sarana hiburan. Penentuan
timbulan sampah non domestik dilakukan dengan pengambilan sampel sampah dari sumbernya sesuai
SNI 19-3964-1994 dan wawancara. Pengambilan sampel dan pengukuran timbulan sampah dilakukan
selama delapan hari berturut-turut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh rata-rata timbulan sampah
non rumah tangga di Kota Binjai pada setiap unit yaitu pertokoan 0,153 kg/org/hari atau 6,886
l/org/hari, perkantoran 0,054 kg/org/hari atau 2,231 l/org/hari, sekolah 0,015 kg/org/hari atau 0,444
l/org/hari, rumah makan 0,097 kg/m2/hari atau 3,089 l/m2/hari, pasar 0,181 kg/m2/hari atau 0,026
l/m2/hari, sarana kesehatan 0,0475 kg/m2/hari atau 0,078 l/m2/hari, sarana hiburan 0,004 kg/m2/hari
atau 0,118 l/m2/hari, pusat perbelanjaan0,1035 kg/m2/hari atau 0,143 l/m2/hari, penyapuan jalan 0,038
kg/m2/hari atau 1,931 l/m2/hari dan hotel 0,192 kg/bed/hari atau 4,233 l/bed/hari. Komposisi sampah
non rumah tangga rata-rata yang dihasilkan di Kota Binjai adalah sampah organik sebesar 59,04 %,
sampah plastik sebesar 17,37 %, sampah kertas sebesar 14,60 %, sampah kain/tekstil sebesar 4,34 %,
sampah kaca sebesar 1,70%, sampah logam sebesar 1,13 %, sampah jenis lain sebesar 0,96%, sampah
kayu sebesar 0,61 % dan yang paling rendah adalah sampah karet/kulit sebesar 0,25 %. Karakteristik
fisik berupa berat jenis 0,153 kg/l, kadar air 27,52%, kadar volatil 52,63% ,kadar abu 9,99%, kadar
karbon tetap 9,86 % dan nilai kalor sampah sebesar 3129,516 kal/gr. | en_US |
