    Pengomposan Sampah Organik Menggunakan Metode Vermikomposting (Studi Kasus: Universitas Sumatera Utara)

    Abstract
    Sebagian besar sampah organik di Universitas Sumatera Utara didominasi oleh sampah daun taman. Sampah daun taman merupakan salah satu bahan yang dapat dijadikan kompos. Penambahan bahan organik lain diperlukan untuk meningkatkan kandungan unsur hara kompos. Vermikomposting sebagai salah satu teknologi yang murah untuk mengolah sampah organik. Vermikomposting merupakan suatu proses organik, bioksidasi dan stabilisasi non termofilik dari dekomposisi sampah organik yang bergantung pada cacing tanah untuk memotong, mencampur serta meningkatkan kerja mikroorganisme. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mempelajari pengaruh penambahan jumlah cacing tanah terhadap kinerja proses pengomposan dari campuran sampah taman dan kotoran sapi dan untuk mendapatkan hasil terbaik dari pengaruh penambahan jumlah cacing tanah. Penelitian tentang pengomposan sampah organik menggunakan metode vermikomposting studi kasus Universitas Sumatera Utara telah selesai dilakukan. Penelitian ini diawali dengan proses fermentasi bahan baku yaitu sampah taman dan kotoran sapi selama 2 minggu, dilanjutkan dengan proses vermikomposting selama 30 hari. Proses vermikomposting dilaksanakan menggunakan variasi berat cacing dan luas wadah yang digunakan. Selama proses vermikomposting suhu berada pada rentang 25-32oC, pH konstan yaitu 7, pengomposan optimum yaitu dengan jumlah penambahan cacing tanah 300 gram, nilai C-Organik 14,4%, N-Total 0,62%, Kadar Air 65% dan Nilai Rasio C/N 23,2. Nilai kadar air dan C/N rasio dalam penelitian ini belum memenuhi SNI 19-7030-2004, sedangkan nilai suhu, pH sudah memenuhi SNI 19- 7030-2004.
     
    Most of the organic waste at the University of North Sumatra is sent by garden leaves. Garden leaf waste is one of the ingredients that can be composted. The additional of the organic ingredients is needed to increase the content of compost. Vermicomposting as one of the cheap technologies for processing organic waste. Vermicomposting is an organic process, bioxidation and non-thermophilic stabilization from the decomposition of organic waste needed in earthworms to cut, mix and improve the work of microorganisms. The purpose of this study is the results of research on the amount of soil on the performance of the composting process from a mixture of garden waste and cow dung and to get the best results from increasing the amount of land. Research on composting organic waste using the vermicomposting method of the University of North Sumatra case study has been completed. This study begins with the fermentation process of raw materials, namely garden waste and cow dung for 2 weeks, followed by a vermicomposting process for 30 days. The vermicomposting process was carried out using variations in worm weight and the width of the container used. During the vermicomposting process the temperature remains in the range of 25-32oC, the pH is constant, 7, optimal composting is calculated by the amount of soil 300 grams, COrganic value 14.4%, N-Total 0.62%, Moisture content 65% and Value of C/N ratio 23.2. The value of water content and C / N ratio in this study did not meet SNI 19-7030- 2004, while the value of the temperature, pH had fulfilled SNI 19-7030-2004.
