Lesbianism As Portrayed in Clare Lydon’s This London Love

Abstract

This thesis entitled “Lesbianism as Portrayed in Clare Lydon’s This London Love.” This thesis explains about the causes and effects of lesbianism which found in the novel This London Love by Clare Lydon. The purpose of this thesis is to find out the causes of lesbianism experienced by the two main characters and effects of lesbianism experienced by the two main characters. This thesis uses Uzoeshi‘s theory to analyze the causes and effects of lesbianism in a novel in line with Queer Theory. In analyzing this thesis, the writer uses qualitative descriptive method that presents all data in the form of words and sentences and uses library research as a way to collect data by reading and selecting quotations from the novel This London Love. From this research it is found that the two main characters in the novel experienced four causes of lesbianism which are inadequate parenting, associating with lesbians, heterophobic, and looking masculine; and two effects of lesbianism which are alcoholism and jealous reactions.

Tesis ini berjudul “Lesbianism as Portrayed in Clare Lydon’s This London Love.” Tesis ini membahas tentang penyebab dan akibat dari Lesbianisme dalam novel This London Love oleh Clare Lydon. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk mengetahui penyebab lesbianisme yang dialami oleh kedua tokoh utama dan akibat dari lesbianisme yang dialami oleh kedua tokoh utama. Skripsi ini menggunakan teori Uzoeshi untuk menganalisis penyebab dan akibat dari lesbianisme di dalam novel sesuai dengan Teori Queer. Dalam menganalisis skripsi ini, penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang mempresentasikan semua data dalam bentuk kata dan kalimat dan menggunakan riset perpustakaan sebagai cara dalam mengumpulkan data dengan membaca dan memilih kutipan dari novel This London Love. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa kedua karakter utama pada novel mengalami empat penyebab dari lesbianisme yakni pengasuhan yang tidak memadai, berhubungan dengan lesbian, heterofob, dan maskulin; dua akibat dari lesbianisme yaitu alkoholisme dan kecemburuan.
