Analysis of Body Language in “Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un” News Video

Abstract

The title of this thesis is ANALYSIS OF BODY LANGUAGE IN „ DONALD TRUMP AND KIM JONG UN‟ NEWS VIDEO. This thesis deals with body language as a form of non-verbal communication. The writer focuses mainly on the analysis of the verbal and nonverbal elements and how the meaning of semiotic signs are realized in news video. This study is a library research and uses descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data of this study is eight selected picture and collecting by downloading the news video from website Youtube. The theories applied to analyze the data are Order of Signification theories of semiotic proposed by Roland Barthez, and Legisigns non-verbal communication theories of semiotics proposed by Charles Sanders Peirce. Barthez‟s theory is used to analyze the problems about the signifying verbal elements. Peirce theory is used to analyze the problems about the signifying visual elements. The result of this research shows that Donald Trump has 33 (thirty three) body language and Kim Jong Un has 25 (twenty five) body language.

Skripsi ini berjudul ANALYSIS OF BODY LANGUAGE IN „ DONALD TRUMP AND KIM JONG UN‟ NEWS VIDEO. Skripsi ini membahasa bahasa tubuh sebagai bentuk komunikasi non-verbal. Penulis berfokus utama pada analisis tanda verbal dan nonverbal serta bagaimana tanda- tanda semiotik direalisasikan dalam berita video. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kepustakaan yang menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatife dalam menganalisis data. Data dari penelitian ini adalah delapan gambar yang dipilih dan dikumpulkan dengan mengunduh berita video dari situs Youtube. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah teori Orde Signifikasi Semiotik yang dikemukakan oleh Roland Barthez dan teori komunikasi non-verbal semotik legisign yang dikemukakan oleh Charles Sanders Peirce. Teori Barthez digunakan untuk menganalisis masalah yang terdapat dalam elemen verbal. Teori Peirce digunakan untuk menganalis masalah yang terdapat dalam elemen visual. Hasil dari skripsi ini menujukkah bahwa Donald Trump memiliki 33 (tiga puluh tiga) elemen bahasa tubuh dan Kim Jong Un memiliki 22 (dua puluh dua) elemen bahasa tubuh.
