    Pemanfaatan Serat Nano Selulosa dari Limbah Serat Mesocarp Sawit Sebagai Pengisi Termodifikasi Alkanolamida Pada Produk Lateks Karet Alam

    Abstract
    Palm oil is one of the largest commodity in Indonesia, and it is hugely found in Sumatera, Borneo, Sulawesi and Papua island. Besides of producing crude palm oil, in its manufacturing process also resulted various kind of waste, mesocarp fiber is one of them. Mesocarp fiber waste contained high amount of cellulose with low lignin composition which is potentially great to be re-utilized to yield nanofiber cellulose. Nano fiber cellulose attracted many researchers because its excellent ability on enhancing tensile strength of the reinforced-materials. This research was aimed to utilize nanofiber cellulose from mesocarp fiber waste as modified filler in natural rubber latex product to enhance the properties of resulted product. Mesocarp fiber waste were underwent delignification process with 3.5% of HNO3 and NaNO2 solution, precipitated with 17.5% of NaOH solution, bleached with 10% of H2O2 solution, hydrolysis process by mixed solution 5% sulfuric acid and 5% chloric acid under effect of ultrasonication at 80oC, centrifugated at 10000 rpm for 20 minutes. Nanofiber cellulose were evaporated using hot air oven at 60oC. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the obtained nanofiber cellulose were 1-26 nanometer in diameter and 148-676 nanometer in length. The crystallinity index of nanofiber cellulose were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and showed high value of crystallization which was 66.65%. Nanofiber cellulose as fillers were modified by 0 and 2.5wt% of alkanolamide. Alkanolamide is a compound derived from Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Stearin (RBDPS) and diethanolamine. The filler dispersant were mixed into latex system and followed by pre-vulcanization at 70°C. The product were prepared in the latex system by coagulant dipping method and vulcanized at various temperature which were 100, 120 and 140°C for 10 minutes. The mechanical properties of natural rubber latex films were investigated such as crosslink density, tensile strength, elongation at break, and tensile modulus. The addition of nanofiber cellulose and alkanolamide as fillers increased crosslink density, tensile strength and elongation at break values. Higher vulcanization temperature led to increased crosslink density and tensile strength while the elongation at break decreased. Characterization of natural rubber latex films is also supported by FTIR and SEM analysis. SEM micrograph exhibited that fillers of nanofiber cellulose were well-distributed in natural rubber latex matrix and alkanolamide addition were also seems resulted in higher dense of product.
     
    Kelapa sawit merupakan salah satu komoditi terbesar di Indonesia, sangat banyak ditemukan terutama di pulau Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi dan Papua. Selain menghasilkan Crude Palm Oil (CPO), dalam proses pengolahan kelapa sawit juga menghasilkan berbagai jenis limbah, salah satunya adalah serat mesocarp sawit. Serat mesocarp memiliki kandungan selulosa yang tinggi dengan komposisi lignin yang kecil sehingga menjadikan limbah serat mesocarp sawit berpotensi tinggi untuk dimanfaatkan dalam menghasilkan serat nano selulosa yang. Serat nano selulosa sangat menarik perhatian banyak peneliti karena memiliki kemampuan yang sangat baik dalam membantu memberikan peningkatan terhadap kekuatan tarik sebuah material. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memanfaatkan serat nano selulosa dari limbah serat mesocarp sawit sebagai pengisi yang dimodifikasi alkanolamida pada produk lateks karet alam yang berfungsi untuk meningkatkan sifat sifat produk lateks karet alam. Limbah serat mesocarp sawit didelignifikasi menggunakan larutan HNO3 3,5% dan NaNO2, presipitasi dengan larutan NaOH 17,5%, bleaching dengan larutan H2O2 10%, proses hidrolisis dengan asam sulfat 5% dan asam klorida 5% dibawah pengaruh ultrasonikasi pada suhu 80oC, sentrifugasi pada 10000 rpm selama 20 menit. Serat nano selulosa dievaporasi menggunakan hot air oven pada suhu 60oC. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) menunjukan bahwa serat nano selulosa selulosa yang diperoleh memiliki diameter 1-26 nm dan panjang 148-676 nm. Indeks kritalinitas serat nano selulosa yang diukur menggunakan X-ray diffraction (XRD) memperlihatkan hasil yang cukup tinggi yaitu 66,65%. Serat nano selulosa sebagai filler dimodifikasi oleh alkanolamida dengan komposisi 0 dan 2,5 %. Alkanolamida adalah senyawa turunan dari refined bleached deodorized palm stearin (RBDPS) dan dietanolamina. Dispersi filler dicampur kedalam sistem lateks dan diikuti dengan pravulkanisasi pada 70 oC. Produk film lateks disiapkan dalam sistem lateks dengan metode pencelupan berkoagulan dan divulkanisasi pada variabel temperatur 100, 120 dan 140 oC selama 10 menit. Sifat sifat mekanik film lateks karet alam telah diinvestigasi, seperti densitas sambung silang, kekuatan tarik, pemanjangan saat putus, dan modulus tarik. Penambahan pengisi serat nano selulosa dan alkanolamida meningkatkan nilai densitas sambung silang, kekuatan tarik dan juga pemanjangan saat putus. Suhu vulkanisasi yang lebih tinggi memperlihatkan peningkatan densitas sambung silang dan kekuatan tarik produk, sedangkan pemanjangan saat putus menurun. FTIR dan SEM turut mendukung karakterisasi dari film lateks karet alam yang dihasilkan. SEM memperlihatkan pengisi terdistribusi dengan baik dalam matriks lateks karet alam dan penambahan alkanolamida memperlihatkan kerapatan produk yang lebih tinggi.
