dc.description.abstractBackground: Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer incidence and death. Glucose is the biggest energy source for cells. Glucose transporter1 (GLUT1) is over-expressed in different types of cancer. Considering the importance of GLUT1 in the process of oncogenesis, research needs to be done to determine the prognostic value and continued therapy of GLUT1 in tumors. Objective: To determine the relationship of GLUT1 expression with tumor stage, tumor size and histopathological type of Adenocarcinoma and Squamous cell carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Formalin-fixed paraffin tissue blocks from 43 lung cancer patients were used to investigate GLUT1 expression by immunohistochemistry. Basic characteristics of the sample were obtained through medical records and pathology archives. Results: GLUT1 expression was associated with an advanced stage of lung cancer, with a larger tumor size and strong expression in the type of pulmonary squamous cell carcinoma. Conclusion: GLUT1 expression in Non Small Cell Lung Cancer can be an indication of the metabolic and vascular requirements of the tumor with clinical implications on survival ability and advanced therapy plans.en_US
dc.description.abstractLatar Belakang : Kanker paru merupakan salah satu penyebab utama insidensi dan kematian akibat kanker. Glukosa merupakan sumber energi terbesar untuk sel. Glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1) diekspresikan berlebihan pada tipe yang berbeda dari kanker. Mengingat pentingnya GLUT1 pada proses oncogenesis, perlu dilakukan penelitian untuk mengetahui nilai prognostik dan terapi lanjutan dari GLUT1 pada kanker. Tujuan : Untuk mengetahui hubungan ekspresi GLUT1 dengan stadium tumor, ukuran tumor dan tipe histopatologi Adenocarcinoma dan Squamous cell carcinoma. Bahan dan Metode : Blok paraffin jaringan yang terfiksasi formalin dari 43 penderita kanker paru digunakan untuk meneliti ekspresi GLUT1 secara imunohistokimia. Karakteristik dasar sampel didapatkan melalui rekam medis dan arsip patologi. Hasil : Ekspresi GLUT1 berhubungan dengan stadium lanjut kanker paru, dengan ukuran tumor yang lebih besar dan terekspresi kuat pada tipe Squamous cell carcinoma paru. Simpulan : Ekspresi GLUT1 pada kanker paru NSCLC dapat menjadi indikasi kebutuhan metabolik dan pembuluh darah tumor dengan implikasi klinik pada kemampuan bertahan hidup dan rencana terapi lanjutan.en_US
