dc.description.abstract | Background: The prevalence of Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) infections in developing countries, especially schoolchildren is still very high. One of the effects of STH infection is anemia. Objective: To determine the association between STH infection and anemia in primary schoolchildren. Methods: Analytic obsevation with crossectional methods by taking data from health center in Talawi district. The sample was primary schoolchildren grouped into infected STH group and not infected group. Data was analyzed using continuity tests and Fisher’s Exact test. Results: From 384 children who participated in the study, 35,9% were infected with STH and 22,5% of them had anemia. The prevelance of STH infection consisted of 76,8% Trichiuris trichiura, 10,9% Ascaris lumbricoides, 0,7% hookworm and 11,6% mixed infections. Anemia was significantly correlated with STH infection (Odds ratio / OR (95% CI) = 4,5 (2,3-8,6)) and intensities of Trichiuris Trichiura infection (OR (95% CI) = 3,6 (1,2-10,9)). Conclusion: There was association between STH infection and intensities of Trichiuris Trichiura infection with the incidence of anemia. | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Latar belakang : Prevalensi infeksi Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) di
negara berkembang khususnya anak usia sekolah sangat tinggi. Salah satu
efek infeksi STH adalah anemia.
Tujuan : Mengetahui hubungan infeksi STH dengan kejadian anemia pada
anak sekolah dasar.
Metode : Observasi analitik dengan metode crossectional, dilakukan dengan
mengambil data dari unit pelayanan kesehatan kecamatan Talawi. Sampel
adalah anak sekolah dasar kelas I-VI dikelompokkan menjadi kelompok yang
terinfeksi STH dan kelompok yang tidak terinfeksi STH. Data dianalisis
menggunakan uji continuity correction dan uji Fisher’s Exact.
Hasil : Dari 384 anak yang ikut penelitian 35,9% anak terinfeksi STH dan
22,5% diantaranya menderita anemia. Prevalensi infeksi STH terdiri dari 76,8%
Trichiuris trichiura, 10,9% Ascaris lumbricoides, 0,7% hookworm dan 11,6%
infeksi campuran. Kejadian anemia mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan
dengan infeksi STH (Odds ratio / OR (IK 95%) = 4,5 (2,3-8,6)) dan intensitas
infeksi T. trichiura (OR(IK 95%) = 3,6 (1,2-10,9)).
Kesimpulan : Adanya hubungan antara infeksi STH dan intensitas infeksi T.
