A Sociolinguistic Analysis on the Use Of Slang in Gay Community

Abstract

This thesis is entitled A Sociolinguistic Analysis on The Use of Slang in Gay Community which focuses on the use of slang in a gay community in Medan. This research is included in qualitative descriptive research that is the research that produces analytical procedures that do not use statistical analysis procedure. The source of data in this study is the gay community's speech in Medan, while the data in the form of words or diction derived from gays‟ utterances. The data in this study was collected by using the voice recording method. The findings of this study indicate that (1) there are many varieties of slang word, where there are 515 slang words used by gay community in Medan, (2) there are three types of slang;offensive, vulgar, and taboo and these three types of slang have different definitions and meanings.

Penelitian ini berjudul A Sociolinguistic Analysis on The Use of Slang in Gay Community yang berfokus pada penggunaan slang dikomunitas gay di Medan. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yang memberikan prosedur-prosedur analitikal yang tidak menggunakan prosedur statistik. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah perkataan dari komunitas gay di Medan dan bentuk datanya adalah kata atau diksi dari ucapan para gay. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode rekam suara. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa (1) ada banyak variasi kata slang, dengan 515 kata slang yang digunakan komunitas gay di Medan, (2) ada tiga tipe slang: offensive, vulgar dan taboo. Ketiga tipe ini memiliki definisi dan makna yang berbeda.
