    Studi Pemanfaatan Silika Gel Tersalut Kitosan untuk Menurunkan Kadar Logam Besi dan Seng dalam Larutan Kopi

    Abstract
    The use of chitosan as a coating agent for silica gel in order to decrease iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) contents in coffee extract has been carried out. The adsorptions of iron and zinc was conducted by eluting the coffee extract through the chromatography column contains silica gel and silica gel coated with chitosan. The eluate were collected in varied elution time as 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 minutes. Each of eluate was analysed to determine iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) contents by using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The results obtained showed that the adsorption of iron (Fe) by silica gel and silica gel coated with chitosan were 55,86% and 98,32% successwely. On the other hand, the adsorption of zinc (Zn) by silica gel and silica gel coated with chitosan were successwely were 27,75% and 86,73%. If can be concluded that the adsorption of iron and zinc by silica gel and silica gel coated with chitosan are higher than by silica gel.
     
    Telah dilakukan penggunaan kitosan sebagai penyalut pada silika gel untuk menurunkan konsentrasi logam besi (Fe) dan Seng (Zn) dalam larutan kopi. Adsorpsi terhadap logam besi dan seng dilakukan dengan mengelusi ekstrak kopi melalui kolom kromatografi yang berisi silika gel dan silika gel yang disalut dengan kitosan. Eluat ditampung sesuai dengan waktu elusi yang bervariasi yaitu 5, 10, 15, 20 dan 25 menit. Masing-masing eluat ditentukan kadar besi dan seng dengan menggunakan spektrofotometer serapan atom hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa penyerapan besi oleh silika gel dan silika gel yang disalut kitosan berturut-turut adalah 55,86% dan 98,32%. Di dalam hal yang lain, penyerapan seng oleh silika gel dan silika gel yang disalut kitosan berturut-turut adalah 27,75% dan 86%, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa silika gel yang telah disalut kitosan mangadsorpsi logam besi (Fe) dan seng (Zn) lebih besar dibandingkan dengan silika gel tanpa salut
