dc.description.abstractThe fabrication of cordierite ceramic has been done by using the basic material of MgO and palm shell ash. The mixture of the raw material of ceramic (MgO, clay) is in mass percentage. The ingredients are arranged in the packages of the MgO and palm shell using the ratio of 0 : 70, 5 : 65, 10 : 60, 15 : 55, 20 : 50. Then 30% sample mass of clay is added to each sample. Each of the sample mixture is stirred in an adequate water by mixer. After the stirring is homogeneous, it is poured into the mold of 22 cm of height, 4.5 cm of outer diameter and 2.5 cm of inner diameter, then allowed to dry in 12 days. After the drying process, the samples is heated until 1100 °C and hold in 2 hours as well as cooled in 12 hours. Then the samples are tested both in physically and mechanically. From the physical testing is found that pores percentages of 38,42% - 58,37%, density of 1,10% – 1,15%, permeabilities of 73,55 Pa - 357,94 Pa, mass shrinkages of 24,02% - 30,40%, and burning shrinkages of 4,7% - 6,25%, while the mechanical testing results in the hardness of 121,2 HV – 168,2 HV, pressure strength of 0,85 MPa - 2,04 MPa and impact strength of 0,18-0,33 J/cm3. The testing of samples is also done by XRD diffract-meter in order to obtain the dominant chemical composition of Magnesium Oxide and tested by gas analyser when used in vehicle exhausted gas system. The using of the filter give the great amount of influences in air polution. The absorption of filter usage give the decreasing of emission of 1,55% - 4,64% CO ; 0,63% – 1,81% CO2; 18,21% – 21,97% HC, and the increasing of 70,20% - 72,73% O2.en_US
dc.description.abstractTelah dilakukan pembuatan keramik berpori dengan bahan dasar MgO dan abu cangkang kelapa sawit. Pencampuran abu cangkang kelapa sawit dengan bahan dasar keramik (MgO, clay) dilakukan beberapa variasi berdasarkan % massa bahan antara lain, Clay sebanya 30% setiap sampel, abu cangkang kelapa sawit berbanding dengan bahan dasar keramik MgO adalah 0 : 70, 5 : 65, 10 : 60, 15 : 55, 20 : 50 %. Masing-masing campuran ini diaduk dengan menambah air secukupnya dengan mixer. Setelah homogen dituang ke dalam cetakan dalam bentuk silinder dengan ukuran tinggi 22 cm, diameter luar 4,5 cm dan diameter dalam 2,5 cm, lalu dikeringkan selama 12 hari. Pembakaran dilakukan pada temperatur 1100 0C yang ditahan selama 2 jam, kemudian didinginkan selama 12 jam. Terhadap sampel-sampel uji dilakukan pengujian secara fisis maupun mekanik. Dari pengujian fisis diperoleh Porositas 38,42% - 58,37% Densitas 1,10% – 1,15%, permeabilitas 73,55 Pa - 357,94 Pa, susut massa 24,02% - 30,40%, serta susut volum 4,7% - 6,25%. Sedangkan pengujian mekanik diperoleh kekerasan 121,2 HV – 168,2 HV; kuat tekan 0,85-2,04 MPa; kuat impak 0,18 J/cm3 - 0,33 J/cm3. Pengujian juga dilakukan dengan analisis XRD untuk mengetahui komposisi senyawa kimia, dan diperoleh dari yang paling dominan yaitu : Magnesium Oxide, maka dilakukan pengujian emisi gas buang dengan peralatan “ Analyzer Gas” , ternyata penggunaan filter memberikan pengaruh yang sangat besar untuk mengurangi pencemaran udara. Pengurangan tersebut mencapai 1,55% - 4,64% CO ; 0,63% – 1,81% CO2; 18,21% – 21,97% HC; 70,20% - 72,73% O2.en_US
