Karakteristik Penderita Keratitis di RSUP Haji Adam Malik Medan Periode Januari-Desember 2011

Abstract

Background : Keratitis is inflammation of the cornea, which will cause blindness when is not treated. It is a very important issue among people because many people thinks it wil heal by itself, whereas it can actually lead to serious complication. Methods : this research method and the approach used in design of the study is cross sectional retrospective studys. Data were taken from medical records and the number of samples in this sudy is as many as the number of population in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan during 2011. Assesse characteristics were age, gender, occupation and risk factor such as having history of using contact lens, having history of corneal injury. Results : the result showed 74 patients suffering keratitis and the most cases are found in men 40 (54,05%). Based on the patients age the most cases are found in age 19-50 (37 patients, 50%), patients working as students 20 (27,02%), having history of using contact lens 4 (5,40%) and having injury are predominantly caused by dust 46 (62,16%). Conclusion : Keratitis is predominantly in men with corneal injury history.Based on the above, education about the risks of keratitis may be appropriate in the general population.

Latar Belakang : Keratitis adalah infeksi pada kornea yang bila tidak ditangani serius dapat menyebabkan kebutaan. Hal ini menjadi penting karena masyarakat awalnya kurang peduli terhadap keluhan ini, yang diyakini dapat sembuh sendiri dan pada akhirnya berakhir dengan komplikasi serius. Tujuan Penelitian : Mengetahui karakteristik penderita keratitis di RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan tahu 2011. Metode : Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif retrospektif, populasi penelitian adalah semua kasus keratitis pada periode penelitian sebesar 74 kasus dan besar sample adalah seluruh kasus tersebut. Data diambil dari rekam medis RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan dan sampel sebanyak jumlah populasi. Hasil Penelitian : Hasil penelitian didapatkan 74 pasien penderita keratitis, tertinggi pada kelompok umur 19-50 tahun (50%), dengan proporsi laki-laki 40 (54,05%) dan perempuan 34 (45,96%),unilateral 69 (93,25%) pekerjaan terbanyak adalah pelajar dan mahasiswa 20 (27,02%), riwayat trauma 46 (62,16%) dan riwayat pengguna lensa kontak 4 (5,40%). Kesimpulan : Keratitis paling banyak diderita oleh laki-laki dengan riwayat trauma sebagai penyebab terbanyak. Berdasarkan data dari hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan informasi mengenai faktor resiko dan penyebaran keratitis pada keseluruhan populasi.
