dc.description.abstractBackground: Constipation is a common problem encountered in children, 40 % of which occurred in infants and 30 % in school-age children. Constipation can affect physical, emotional, and social function in school-age children so it will affect quality of life . Objective To Compare the quality of life in children with and without functional constipation Methods: Comparative study had conducted from December 2013 to January 2014. Subjects were children aged 8 to 18 years with and without constipation. Subjects were randomlzed and divided into 2 groups, constipation group ( n = 43 ) , and without constipation (n = 39) as controls. Assessment of quality of life performed using PedsQL questionnaire. Result: As many as 82 children recruited. Male and female with constipation was 25.6% and 74.4% respectively. Male and female without constipation was 28.2% and 71.8% respectively. Value of physical function ( 16.3 % ) ( P = 0.0001 , P <0.05 ) , emotional ( 25.6 % ) ( P = 0.0001 ) , social ( 7 % ) ( P = 0.001 ) , and school ( 32.6 % ) ( P = 0.0001 ) significantly affect quality of life in children with constipation compared to children without constipation based on parents report. According to report from the child, only field of social (4.7%) (P = 0 , 01) and school function ( 32.6 % ) ( P = 0.0001 ) affected. Conclusion: Quality of life of children with functional constipation is lower than without functional constipation .en_US
