    Abstract
Introduction: The role of the insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in regulating the metabolism of the remodeling unit is one of the growth factors related to the process of growth and development of the condyle. This study aims to analyze the IGF-1 polymorphism rs5742632 in the Mandibular Asymmetry Phenotype. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study of 60 panoramic radiographs of orthodontic patients above 18 years old. Lemos analysis with Cliniview software is used for mandibular asymmetry analysis. Isolation of DNA from Buccal Swab and continued with an examination of polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Analysis of IGF-1 polymorphism with the category of mandibular asymmetry, age, and gender using STATCAL analysis. Result: There was a significant difference (p<0.05) of polymorphism IGF-1 among light, moderate, and severe mandibular asymmetry. However, there was no association between age and polymorphism IGF-1 rs5742632 (p= 0.3845) and also gender and polymorphism IGF-1 rs5742632 (p = 0.622). Conclusion: Evaluation of polymorphism IGF-1 reported significant differences in mandibular asymmetry, although there was no significant difference based on sex and ages due to adult age samples used during study. It was necessary to consider puberty.
