The aim of this correlational research was to examine the role of hardiness
as a mediator of mental workload on job stress among frontliners of Bank
Mandiri in Pematangsiantar. Data were collected from 53 frontliners of Bank
Mandiri in Pematangsiantar using self report measure method through 3 scales.
These scales are the job stress scale constructed based on the theory of job stress
from Rollinson, hardiness scale constructed based on the theory of hardiness from
Kobasa, and mental workload scale constructed based on the dimension of mental
workload from Reid. The finding of this research using moderated regression
analysis (MRA) showed a significant role of hardiness as a mediator of mental
workload on job stress among frontliners of Bank Mandiri in Pematangsiantar.
Furthermore, the advanced research using multiple regression showed a
significant difference in impact of mental workload’s dimension on job stress and
also a significant difference in impact of hardiness characteristics on job stress.
