    Studi Bahan Bakar Biodiesel Diperoleh dari Reaksi Trigliserida Minyak Goreng Sawit / Etanol dalam Katalis Basa

    Abstract
    Fossil fuel consumption are increasing rapidly and has increased, while fossil fuel reserves are limited, research is directed towards alternative renewable fuels. A potensial diesel fuel substitute is biodiesel. On this research cooking palm oil and ethanol are converted to biodiesel using base catalyst potassium hydroxide (KOH) with transesterification reaction scheme. Reaction take place during 4 hour at temperature 78oC,with comparison of ethanol : cooking palm oil molar ratio 6 : 1, by batch process and atmosphere pressure. The biodiesel obtained was analysed using gas chromatography (GC). In this research, transesterification can produce 76,8 % etyl ester.Then carried out with the blending of biodiesel and diesel fuel mixture composition 60%, 70%, 85%, and test characteristics such as density, flash point, distillation, copper strip corrosion, colour. The results obtained from the characteristic value of density, distillation, copper strip corrosion, colour of all fuel products approaching the diesel fuel value as a comparison and to meet the range specification diesel fuel. Flash point value fuel products is still high compared with the value of diesel fuel flash point of comparison.
     
    Konsumsi bahan bakar minyak semakin bertambah dan mengalami peningkatan, sementara cadangan bahan bakar minyak fosil semakin terbatas, sehingga harus segera dicari sumber energi alternatif yang dapat diperbaharui. Biodiesel adalah salah satu bahan bakar yang potensial sebagai pengganti solar. Pada penelitian ini pembuatan biodiesel dilakukan dengan menggunakan minyak goreng kelapa sawit, etanol dan katalis basa kalium hidroksida (KOH) melalui reaksi transesterifikasi. Reaksi berlangsung selama 4 jam pada suhu 78oC dengan perbandingan molar etanol terhadap minyak 6 : 1 secara batch dan tekanan atmosfir. Biodiesel yang dihasilkan kemudian dianalisis dengan teknik kromatografi gas (GC). Dalam penelitian ini proses transesterifikasi minyak goreng sawit dapat menghasilkan 76,8 % etil ester. Kemudian dilakukan pencampuran biodiesel dan solar dengan komposisi campuran 60%, 70%, 85%. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji karakteristik yang meliputi densitas (density), titik nyala (flash point), destilasi (distillation), korosi strip tembaga (copper strip corrosion), warna (colour). Dari hasil uji karakteristik yang dilakukan, nilai densitas, destilasi, korosi strip tembaga, warna, mendekati karakteristik solar sebagai pembanding dan memenuhi batas spesifikasi solar. Nilai titik nyala masih tinggi dibandingkan dengan titik nyala solar sebagai pembanding.
