    Karakteristik Material Komposit Keratin Hasil Ekstraksi Limbah Bulu Ayam dan Matriks Polietilena Kerapatan Rendah

    Abstract
    Low density polyethylene-based composites were made using keratin extracted from chicken feathers. The addition of keratin alter the mechanic properties of the polyethylene. The composite that added 20% keratin had tensile strength 10,116 MPa and elongation 36,9 %. And composite added 40% keratin had flexural strength 6,256 MPa. Data of DTA showed a rise in melting point temperature and decomposition temperature. Based on data of FTIR, the composite that prodused did not happen a change of function group, so we can know that interaction in composite that produced just physical interaction. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) morphology showed that the keratin more widely dispersed in the polyetilena matrix with the addition of keratin 40% as a filler.
     
    Komposit berbasis polietilena dibuat dengan menggunakan keratin diekstraksi dari bulu ayam. Penambahan keratin merubah sifat mekanik dari polietilen. Nilai kekuatan tarik optimum pada penambahan keratin sebesar 20% yaitu 10,116 MPa, dan kemuluran 36,9 %. Dan kuat lentur optimum pada penambahan keratin sebesar 40% yaitu 6,256 MPa. Dari hasil DTA komposit yang dihasilkan menunjukkan penaikan temperatur leleh sebesar 250oC dan temperatur terdekomposisi sebesar 440oC – 450oC. Berdasarkan data FTIR, komposit yang dihasilkan tidak terjadi perubahan gugus fungsi sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa interaksi yang terjadi hanya interaksi fisika. Morfologi SEM menunjukkan bahwa keratin lebih luar menyebar dalam matriks polietilen dengan penambahan keratin 40% sebagai pengisi.
