Recovery of nickel from spent catalyst after hidrogenation of palm oil with leaching process sulfuric acid was investigated. This study conducted by extraction oil residue, recovery nickel from spent catalyst and determined for activation energy of leaching process. Soxhlet extraction was used to remove oil residue and Atomic Adsorption Spectrophotometer used for determination of nickel. The result showed that spent catalyst were contained oil residue 51,28%, water 1,83%, and Ni 11,14%. In the leaching process, nickel is recovered using H2SO4. And few parameters affecting nickel recovery has been considered such as temperature, H2SO4 acid concentration, digestion of time and rasio solid with solvent volume. The result obtained showed that maximum temperature at 80oC. And Responce Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to determined the optimation process. And the result showed that recovery of nickel 98,66% at acid concentration 6 M, time of digestion 3 hr and rasio solid with solvent volume 1:16 (g/mL) at 80oC. The characterization of nickel solution after leaching process showed that nickel solution contained Ni 34,58%; Fe 0,028%; Cu 0,032%; Zn 0,039, Pb and Cd not detected.
