dc.description.abstractThis thesis is entitled “Contrastive Analysis of Writing System of Arabic Malay in Learning Books at both Junior High School (JHS) and Madrasah Diniyah Awaliyah (MOA)” The objectives of this study are to describe basic systems of writing in the scripts of Arabic Malay found in text books of Junior High School (JHS) and Madrasah Diniyah Awaliyah (MDA) and to investigate similarities and differences among in writing systems of Arabic Malay scripts the text books at both Junior High School (JHS) and Madrasah Diniyah Awaliyah (MDA). The method used in this study is a Contrastive Descriptive Analysis by comparing writing systems of Arab Malay scripts used in text books at both Junior High School (JHS) and Madrasah Diniyah Awaliyah (MDA), and then, classifying systems and basics used in the learning books and even describing similarities and difference among writing systems used in learning books at both Junior High School (JHS) and Madrasah Diniyah Awaliyah (MDA). The findings of the study indicate that writing systems in text books of school/JHS referred to those of Arabic Malay following the rules and sequences of syllable and based on the revised spelling of Indonesian language, whereas the writing systems of Arabic Malay used in text books of Madrasah/MDA referred to the reading and writing abilities based on both the Van Opuijsen spelling and on the revised spelling of Indonesian language and even on the wring systems of Arabic script applied in Indonesian/Malay language. It was found that there are 25 similarities in the writing systems including the singular writing with a single, double and triple syllable and the multiple writing involving repetitive, plural, and derivative /prefix and abortive words. Likewise, in the difference, there were 7 writing systems found including a single syllable with vowel /e/, open-syllable with vowel lei, closed-syllable in a group of words involving repetitive, plural, derivative and other words under a spelling circumstances.en_US
