Perilaku Manusia dan Proses Mental dalam Novel Laila Majnun

Abstract

Novel as a form of literary work is like the world describing the events and behavior created and experienced by human beings through the characters in it. In the novel by Layla Majnun, the existence of psychological phenomena experienced by the main character of the study can be seen. This psychological phenomena is then highlighted through he theory of literary psychology and Systemic Functional Linguistic Theory. This study employs the qualitative method with phenomenological approach because this method is regarded being able to maintain the originality of the text by including the objects to the psychological framework and mental process. The result of this study shows that the representation of human behavior seen through he characters of Majnun, Layla, and Syed Omri who are frustrated, and self- adjustment. Majnun and Layla are frustrated because they can not materialize their love in this world because of the arrogancy of Layla’s parents and strictly binding culture and tradition. Syed Omri becomes frustrated because he fails to make Majnun happy. To overcome this frustration, Layla and Majnun do some self-adjusment or mechanism of defence. The result of mental process analysis done to the novel of Layla Majnun reveals that there are 359 clauses related to mental process perception (40,11 %), 137 clauses related to mental process affection (38,16 %), and 78 clauses related to mental process cognition (21,73 %). The percentage above shows that this novel of Layla Majnun uses more clauses related to the activities of eyes, ears, and heart. This matches the theme of the novel of Layla Majnun which tells about love. The feeling of love grows in the heart is initiated through the sight and listening to the good things said by the person who we love. Brain activity is used to imajine and remember the one we love and eventually it will develop a deeper love for the one we love.

Novel sebagai bagian bentuk sastra merupakan jagad realita yang di dalamnya terjadi peristiwa dan perilaku yang dialami dan dibuat manusia melalui tokoh-tokoh ceritanya. Dalam novel Layla Majnun dapat dilihat kehadiran fenomena kejiwaan yang dialami oleh tokoh utama cerita. Fenomena kejiwaan yang hadir di dalam novel inilah yang dimunculkan kepermukaan dengan menggunakan teori psikologi sastra dan Linguistik Fungsional Sistemik (LFS). Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Pendekatan ini dipandang mampu mempertahankan keaslian teks dengan menempatkan objek ke dalam bingkai psikologis dan proses mental. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa representasi perilaku manusia yang dilihat melalui tokoh Majnun, Layla, dan Syed Omri mengalami frustrasi dan penyesuaian diri. Majnun dan Layla frustrasi karena cinta mereka tidak dapat terwujud di dunia, cinta mereka terhalang karena kesombongan orang tua Layla dan adat yang mengikat. Sedangkan Syed Omri mengalami frustrasi karena gagal membahagiakan Majnun. Untuk mengatasi rasa frustrasi, mereka mengadakan penyesuaian diri atau mekanisme pertahanan. Analisis proses mental pada novel Layla Majnun terdapat 359 klausa dengan rincian: proses mental persepsi 144 klausa atau 40,11%, proses mental afeksi 137 klausa atau 38,16%, dan proses mental kognisi 78 klausa atau 21,73%. Hasil persentase di atas menunjukkan bahwa novel Layla Majnun ini banyak menggunakan klausa aktivitas indra mata dan telinga dan klausa aktivitas hati. Ini sesuai dengan tema novel Layla Majnun yang bercerita tentang cinta. Perasaan cinta yang ada di hati diawali oleh pandangan mata dan mendengar hal-hal yang baik dari orang yang dicintai. Aktivitas otak digunakan untuk membayangkan dan mengenang sang kekasih yang akhirnya akan menambah rasa cinta yang mendalam terhadap orang yang dicintai.
