    Proses Produksi Biodiesel Sawit Secara Sinambung

    Abstract
    A system for continuous two stages transesterification of palm oil in pilot scale was developed using a continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) and pumps for continuous delivery of palm oil and catalyst and for continuous removal of product. Two stage transesterification was carried out to increased palm oil conversion into palm biodieseL Potassium hydroxydewas used as the catalyst, the methanol-to-oil molar ratio was 6:1, and reaction temperature was 60•C. The maximum yield of biodiesel palm increased from 96,7% of first stage transesterification yield at a residence time of 70 min to 99,7% of second stage transesterification yield. This process was runned with circulation pump as agitator.
     
    Proses produksi biodiesel sawit dengan dua tahap transesterifikasi secara sinambung dilakukan dalam skala pilot. Reaktor yang digunakan adalah model reaktor teraduk sempurna (CSTR) dengan tiga pompa untuk mengalirkan minyak sawit, katalis dan metanol secara sinambung ke dalam reaktor. Transesterifikasi dengan dua tahap diharapkan dapat meningkatkan konversi minyak sawit menjadi biodiesel sawit. Transesterifikasi tahap I menghasilkan konversi minyak sawit menjadi biodiesel sawit sebesar 96,7%, dan meningkat menjadi 99,7% pada transesterifikasi tahap II. Transesterifikasi dua tahap secara sinambung berlangsung menggunakan katalis KOH 1%, rasio molar metanol terhadap minyak sawit 6 : 1 dan waktu tinggal reaksi 70 menit.
