dc.description.abstractBackground : Sinonasal papilloma is benign epithelial tumours of the sinonasal tract, composed of an exophytic or endophytic epithelial cells proliferation, with mild to moderate atypia and without stromal invasion. There are three variants – inverted papilloma, exophytic papilloma, and oncocytic papilloma. Although a benign pathology it is associated with locally aggressive, recurrence, and malignancy, especially into squamous cell carcinoma. The p63 gene is becoming increasingly recognized as an important player in human tumorigenesis. Overexpression of p63 in many squamous cell carcinoma suggests that it could act as an oncogene. Objective : The aim of this study is to clarify the expression pattern of p63 in sinonasal papilloma variant to predict malignant transformation into squamous cell carcinoma. Methods : This cross-sectional study was performed on 31 paraffins and slides of patients with sinonasal papillomas, which consist of inverted papillomas (19 cases) and oncocytic papillomas (12 cases), who were diagnosed between January, 1st 2009 to June, 30th 2013. Immunostaining were performed to determine the expression pattern of p63 between inverted papillomas and oncocytic papillomas. Results : In this study, immunoreactivity of p63 with low expression (0-6) was in inverted papilloma 73,68% (14 from 19 cases), and oncocytic papilloma 75% (9 from 12 cases), with high expression (7-9) was in inverted papilloma 26,32% (5 from 19 cases), and oncocytic papilloma 25% (3 from 12 cases). The relationship between p63 expression in inverted papilloma and oncocytic papilloma by using Fisher's exact test showed p-value > 0.05. Conclusion: This study showed varying distribution and intensity of p63 expression in inverted papilloma and oncocytic papilloma, althought statistically there was not difference, so it can be concluded that the p63 antibody in this study can not be used to predict malignant transformation in sinonasal papilloma into squamous cell carcinoma.en_US
dc.description.abstractLatar Belakang: Papilloma sinonasal adalah tumor jinak epitel traktus sinonasal yang tumbuh eksofitik atau endofitik, dengan atipia ringan sampai sedang, namun tanpa invasi stroma. Tumor ini terdiri atas varian inverted papilloma, exophytic papilloma, dan oncocytic papilloma. Meskipun jinak tumor ini bersifat agresif lokal, rekurensi, dan berpotensi transformasi maligna, paling sering menjadi karsinoma sel skuamosa. Gen p63 semakin dikenal sebagai protein penting yang turut berperan dalam perkembangan tumor. Ekspresi p63 pada karsinoma sel skuamosa menunjukkan bahwa p63 berperan sebagai onkogen. Tujuan : Untuk mengetahui pola tampilan p63 pada berbagai varian papilloma sinonasal untuk memprediksi transformasi maligna menjadi karsinoma sel skuamosa. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode potong lintang. Sampel penelitian diambil dari arsip blok parafin dan preparat histopatologik papilloma sinonasal mulai 1 Januari 2009 sampai 30 Juni 2013; dan 31 kasus dikumpulkan terdiri atas inverted papilloma (19) dan oncocytic papilloma (12). Dilakukan pemotongan ulang blok sampel dan dipulas dengan imunohistokimia p63, lalu dianalisa perbedaan tampilan pada kedua varian. Hasil: Pada penelitian ini didapatkan skor imunoreaktif tampilan p63 dengan skor imunoreaktif 0-6 (low expression), yaitu inverted papilloma 73,68% (14 dari 19 kasus) dan oncocytic papilloma 75% (9 dari 12 kasus); skor imunoreaktif 7-9 (high expression), yaitu inverted papilloma 26,32% (5 dari 19 kasus) dan oncocytic papilloma 25% (3 dari 12 kasus); p value > 0,05 (Fisher’s Exact Test). Kesimpulan: Pada penelitian ini didapatkan distribusi dan intensitas tampilan p63 yang beragam pada inverted papilloma dan oncocytic papilloma, namun menurut perhitungan statistik tidak bermakna, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada penelitian ini antibody p63 tidak dapat digunakan untuk memprediksi transformasi maligna pada papilloma sinonasal menjadi karsinoma sel skuamosa.en_US
