Preservation of oil palm wood (OPW) using smoke condensate and formaldehyde resulted in increase of mechanical OPW was increase of mechanical properties of the OPW. Impregnation process was done by dipping OPW specimens into smoke condensate - formaldehyde solution for 48 hours. The impregnated OPW was characterised using mechanical test, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential thermal analysis (DTA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and GC-MS. The result has shown that mechanical strength of impregnated OPW was increased. Smoke condensate and formaldehyde in the OPW specimen functioned as preservative and binder among the wood fibers. Pengawetan kayu kelapa sawit menggunakan asap cair – formaldehid mengakibatkan sifat mekanis KKS bertambah. Proses impregnasi dilakukan dengan merendam spesimen KKS dalam asap cair - formaldehid selama 48 jam. KKS hasil impregnasi diamati menggunakan uji Sifat Mekanis, Mikroskop Elektron Payaran (SEM), Analisis Termal Diferensial (DTA), Spektroskopi Infra Merah Fourier Transform (FTIR) dan GC - MS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan KKS terimpregnasi asap cair - formaldehid meningkat. Asap cair- formaldehid di dalam spesimen KKS berfungsi sebagai pengawet dan pengikat antara serat kayu
