Background Children with Nephrotic syndrome (NS) commonly have a state of subclinical hypothyroidism during proteinuria although they are clinically euthyroid. To date, data comparing thyroid hormone level between children with SSNS and SRNS are still limited. Objective To compare thyroid hormone level between children with SSNS and SRNS. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on Haji Adam Malik General Hospital from August 2015 to January 2016. Subjects were children aged one to 18 years diagnosed with NS. Serum thyroid profile were collected on both group and analyzed using independent T test. Factors can influence subclinical hypothyroidism in children with SSNS and SRNS analyzed using ancova test. Results There were 46 subjects fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 23 were SSNS and 23 others were SRNS. Subclinical hypothyroidism was more common in children with SRNS (63,2%, n=12) than SSNS (36,8%, n=7). Compared to T3 and T4 level, TSH level was elevated significantly on both group. P value less than 0.05. Conclusions Compared to T3 and T4, TSH was increased more prominently in nephrotic syndrome children. The elevation of TSH level was more common in children with SRNS compared to SSNS.en_US
