| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to determine the interaction aspects of the debate in the form of a conversation, and to analyze matters relating to the conversation. In conducting this research, the researcher uses the documentation method in collecting data and applies qualitative analysis in analyzing the debate between the two presidential candidates. The data from this study are the speeches of the two presidential candidates during the event, while the data source comes from a live video broadcast via the YouTube 2020 United States Presidential Debate video sharing platform. Data were analyzed based on Brown & Levinson's theory of Politeness Strategies (1987). The data found is the result of an analysis of the two US presidential candidates, they are Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the interaction between the two candidates during the debat and selected which part of the dialogue contains politeness strategies. Politeness strategies are part of politeness theory to overcome FTA, politeness strategies have four types, namely Off Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness and Bald on Record. | dc.description.abstract | Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aspek interaksi debat berbentuk percakapan, dan menganalisis hal-hal yang berkaitan dengan percakapan tersebut. Dalam melakukan penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan metode dokumentasi dalam mengumpulkan data dan menggunakan analisis kualitatif dalam menganalisis perdebatan antara dua calon presiden. Data dari penelitian ini adalah pidato kedua capres pada saat acara berlangsung, sedangkan sumber data berasal dari siaran langsung video melalui platform video sharing Debat Presiden Amerika Serikat 2020. Data dianalisis berdasarkan teori Politeness Strategies dari Brown & Levinson (1987). Data yang ditemukan merupakan hasil analisis dari dua kandidat presiden AS yaitu Donald Trump dan Joe Biden, interaksi antara kedua kandidat saat debat akan dipilih bagian mana dari dialog yang mengandung strategi kesantunan. Strategi kesantunan merupakan bagian dari teori kesantunan untuk mengatasi FTA, strategi kesantunan memiliki empat jenis yaitu Off Record, Positive Politeness, Negative Politeness dan Bald on Record.
