dc.description.abstract | Quality of life in HIV/AIDS patients was determined by many factors, one of
which is the factor of availability of facilities, infrastructure to support of the
sufferers medical treatment HIV/AIDS at the hospital. The role of hospital leaders
from the lowest to the highest level is to support the service with: a) Maintain the
availability of adequate and continuous drug, b) able to increase the dedication of
frontline employees with HIV/AIDS, c) created HIV/AIDS service affordable.
Leadership styles used by leaders in hospitals played a role determining the
achievement the aim of organizational goals HIV/AIDS service with a subordinate
for: Focus to serve patients, increase the quality of human resources, run all the
standard rules (SOP) and service quality evaluation (the concept of Total quality
management). Accordingly, this study formulates the problem: Is there a relationship
construct a model of leadership with the encouragement improved quality of life HIV
/AIDS patients in referral hospital HIV/AIDS services in Sumatra Utara.
The framework of this study used 2 stage methods that is Phase I: Qualitative
explorative by identified variable and leadership construcs in RSU Adam Malik and
RSU Siantar, in this stage carried out in depth interviews and observation so that
construct models of leadership. Phase II: Quantitative konfirmatif. Namely: construct
models of leadership confirmed at 5 referral hospitals in Medan.
Constructs leadership styles in this research affect the quality of life HIV/
AIDS patients through the quality of human resources, customer focus, process
management and quality evaluation (TQM). Increasingly leadership style then
increasingly good the TQM that was pointed increase quality of life.
Characteristic constructs of leadership styles in Referral Hospital
environment obtained in this study were: a) The leader who can become an idol,
commendable behavior is described as a king, b) Authoritative leader if necessary
with the help of supra naturally caused a lot of support and care to HIV services, but
such support was only lip service, c) The leader must be able to maintain position in
every way (smart politics, nepotism, always ask for the blessing of the boss,
