Tingkat Pengetahuan Mahasiswa Kepaniteraan Klinik FKG USU tentang Tata Cara Penanganan Dental pada Pasien Epilepsi

Abstract

Penyakit epilepsi adalah suatu penyakit yang ditandai adanya perubahan perilaku, dan kontraksi otot yang tidak disengaja diakibatkan oleh aktivitas abnormal listrik di otak. Pada penanganan dental pasien epilepsi, kesulitan yang paling banyak dihadapi adalah besarnya risiko terjadinya bangkitan saat perawatan gigi berlangsung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat gambaran tingkat pengetahuan mahasiswa kepaniteraan klinik tentang tata cara penanganan dental pada pasien epilepsi. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner online kepada 106 mahasiswa kepaniteraan klinik terdiri dari 17 pertanyaan mengenai tata cara penanganan dental pada pasien epilepsi yang sudah tervalidasi. Responden dipilih menggunakan teknik probability sampling. Dari hasil penelitian ini sebanyak 55 responden (51,9%) memiliki tingkat pengetahuan sedang, sebanyak 37 responden (34,9%) yang memiliki pengetahuan baik, dan 14 responden (16%) yang memiliki tingkat pengetahuan kurang. Pengetahuan mahasiswa kepaniteraan klinik tentang tata cara penanganan dental pada pasien epilepsi termasuk dalam kategori cukup, meskipun terdapat beberapa responden yang memiliki pengetahuan baik hingga kurang. Diharapkan mahasiswa kepaniteraan klinik dapat lebih meningkatkan pengetahuan mengenai tata cara penanganan dental pada pasien epilepsi sehingga dapat meningkatkan upaya penanganan dental pada pasien penyakit epilepsi.

Epilepsy is a disease characterized by behavioral changes, and involuntary muscle contractions caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. In dental treatment of patients with epilepsy, the most common difficulty faced is the high risk of seizures during dental treatment. In this study, the aim of this study was to describe the level of knowledge of clinical dental students about procedures of dental treatment in patients with epilepsy. This research was conducted using an online questionnaire to 106 clinical dental students, which contained 17 questions about procedures of dental treatment in patients with epilepsy and had been validated. Respondents were selected using probability sampling technique. The results of this study, fifty-five students (51,9%) considered their level of knowledge on procedures of dental treatment in patients with epilepsy were reggular, while thirthy-seven (34,9%) and fourteen (13,2%) of respondents rated their knowledge as good and insufficient. The level of knowledge about procedures of dental treatment in patients with epilepsy was considered regular among dentistry students, although they showed a good and sufficient level of knowledge of the dental treatment of patients with epilepsy, there is a clear need to implement continued educational measures about dental treatment of patients with epilepsy, so that it can increase the efforts dental treatment of patients with epilepsy.
