dc.description.abstractPatients who have had a stroke are often experience constipation. The objective of the study is to identify the effectiveness of abdominal massage on the prevention of constipation for stroke patients. The study employs quasi-experimental two group pretest posttest approach. The samples are taken by consecutive sampling technique with the number of 56 stroke patients as the respondents which then are divided into two groups, 28 intervention groups and 28 control groups. The data are collected using Constipation Assessment Scale (CAS) instrument and are analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t test. The results shows that abdominal massage has an effect on the prevention of constipation for stroke patients (p = 0.001) and the results of Multiple Linear Regression shows that age has the biggest effect on constipation than the use of laxative or opioid. The study recommends that abdominal massage can be one of the non-pharmacological actions to help the prevention of constipation for stroke patiens.en_US
