Pronunciation of English Labiodental and Dental Fricatives by Acehnese English Teachers in Lhokseumawe City and English Native Speaker: An Acoustic Phonetic Analysis

Abstract

This research is aimed to analysis the standardization pronunciation of Frequency of labiodental and dental fricatives based on male and female Acehnese English teachers. labiodental sounds in English have two word such as /f/, /v/ and dental sounds in English: /ð/, /θ/. Pronunciation process in phonetics analyzed using Cook theory and support by Finegan theory and praat application by (Boersma and Weenink). descriptive qualitative method is used in this research. The object of this research is the teacher in Aceh (Lhokseumawe City). The Researcher took a random sample of 5 schools (SMA 2, 5, 6, 7, Sukma Bangsa) with the criteria of 5 male English teachers and 5 female English teachers. To support this research the researcher used praat application for a speech analysis process that will be spoken by subject. The researchers used apply pre-6.0.33 version. The results of the pronunciation analysis from a sound of labiodental letters and dental fricatives, there were 20 words spoken by 5 males Acehnese English teachers, showed that there were several words whose standard frequency was pronounced closer to the USA male native speaker was subject 4 of the 20 words of labiodental speech sounds and dental fricatives, which he spoke of, there were 9 utterances of labiodental letters and dental fricatives that were closed to the standard pronunciation of the USA male native speaker because the results analyzed based on the praat application showed that the frequency of subject 4 was closer to that of the other subjects. For other subjects, it produces a frequency far from the US native speaker frequency numbers. However, the results of the analysis of the pronunciation of a labiodental sound and dental fricatives contained in 20 words that were spoken by 5 females Acehnese English teachers, showed that there were several words whose standard frequency pronounced closer to the US female native speaker was subject 8 of the 20 words of labiodental speech sounds and dental fricatives, which she pronounced, there were 13 utterances of labiodental and dental fricatives which were closed to the standard pronunciation of the US male native speaker. Due to the results analyzed based on preapplication shows the frequency of subject 8 is closer to the closest than other subjects. For other subjects, it produced a frequency that was far beyond the US native speaker frequency numbers.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa proses standart suatu frekuensi pada pengucapan bunyi labiodental and dental yang dihasilkan oleh guru Bahasa inggris laki-laki dan perempuan bunyi huruf labiodental terbagi menjadi 2 yaitu huruf /f/ dan huruf /v/ serta bunyi huruf dental yang dihasilkan adalah huruf ð/, /θ/. Proses pengucapan di penganalisaan fonetik menggunakan teori cook dan di dukung oleh teori finegan dan aplikasi praat yang ditemukan oleh (boersma dan weenink). Pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskripsi kualitatif. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah guru yang ada di aceh khususnya di (kota lhokseumawe). Peneliti memilih secara acak beberapa sekolah untuk di jadikan objek seperti (SMA 2,5,6,7, dan Sekolah Sukma Bangsa) dengan suatu kriteria 5 guru pria dan 5 guru wanita. Untuk mendukung penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan aplikasi praat untuk proses penganalisaan suatu kata yang di ucapkan si subjek. Penelitian ini menggunakan versi praat 6.0.33. Hasil analisa pengucapan dari suatu bunyi huruf labiodental and dental fricatives terdapat di 20 kata yang di ucapkan oleh 5 male Acehnese English teachers menunjukan ada beberapa kata yang standard frequency pengucapannya mendekati USA male native speaker adalah subject 4. Dari 20 kata bunyi ucapan labiodental dan dental fricatives yang beliau ucapkan terdapat 9 ucapan huruf labiodental and dental fricatives yang mendekati standard pengucapan USA male native speaker dikarenakan hasil yang dianalisa berdasarkan aplikasi praat menunjukan frequency subject 4 lebih mendekati daripada subject yang lainnya. Untuk subject yang lainnya menghasilkan suatu frequency yang jauh dari angka frequency ucapan USA native speaker. Akan tetapi, hasil analisa pengucapan dari suatu bunyi huruf labiodental and dental fricatives terdapat di 20 kata yang di ucapkan oleh 5 female Acehnese English teachers menunjukan ada beberapa kata yang standard frequency pengucapannya mendekati USA female native speaker adalah subject 8. Dari 20 kata bunyi ucapan labiodental dan dental fricatives yang beliau ucapkan terdapat 13 ucapan huruf labiodental and dental fricatives yang mendekati standard pengucapan USA male native speaker. Dikarenakan hasil yang dianalisa berdasarkan aplikasi praat menunjukan frequency subject 8 mendekati terdekat daripada subject yang lainnya. Untuk subject yang lainnya menghasilkan suatu frequency yang jauh bahkan lewat dari angka frequency ucapan USA native speaker.
