Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoantibodies process against the cell nucleus and immune complex that will activate the inflammatory system causing the excitatory threshold of platelet activation to be lower. Several studies before have reported that the Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) and Platelet distribution width (PDW) could be used as markers of SLE disease activity. Evaluation of SLE activity using the MEX-SLEDAI index is useful in guidance in providing therapy, and the high mortality rate of SLE due to active disease (flare) needs special attention. This study aimed to determine the difference in MPV and PDW values between flare and non-flare groups in SLE patients. The study found a significant difference in MPV values between flare groups compared to non-flares of [9,025±2,016 vs. 10,350 ± 1,094, (p=0.02)] while PDW values are not statistically significant [11,750±3,140 vs. 10,560 ± 2,130, (p=0.083)]. Based on Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve obtained, the cutoff value for MPV is 9.15 fl with sensitivity value (90.6%) and specificity (66%). MPV value can be used as a biomarker to assess the activity of the disease course of SLE.en_US
