dc.description.abstractIn this paper, the commercial metal foams were analyzed and characterized to be used as the wick structure in a cylindrical heat pipe, where ferrofluid was used as the working liquid. The surface modifications of the metal foams were prepared using acetone cleaning and superhydrophobic coating methods. The metal foams were characterized using several measurements: XRD, 3D optical microscope, density, porosity, SEM-EDX, FTIR, contact angle, and capillary. The cylindrical heat pipe was tested at two heat input variations of 3 and 5 W in a horizontal direction. The metal foam characterizations revealed that the acetone cleaned metal foam is more suitable to be used as the wick structure in a cylindrical heat pipe. The acetone cleaned metal foam has a hydrophilic characteristic that could enhance the capillary movement and liquid circulation in the heat pipe. The heat pipe ’s performances test proposed that the the optimum thermal resistance is obtained at heat input of 5W (2.47 oC/W).en_US
dc.description.abstractDalam tulisan ini, metal foam komersial dianalisis dan dikarakterisasi untuk digunakan sebagai wick structure dalam heat pipe silinder, dimana ferrofluid digunakan sebagai cairan kerja. Modifikasi permukaan metal foam diberi perlakuan menggunakan pembersihan aseton dan metode pelapisan superhidrofobik.Metal foam dikarakterisasi menggunakan beberapa pengukuran: XRD, mikroskop optik 3D, densitas, porositas, SEM-EDX, FTIR, sudut kontak, dan kapilaritas. Heat pipe silinder diuji pada dua variasi kalor input 3 dan 5 W arah horizontal. Karakterisasi metal foam menunjukkan bahwa metal foam yang dibersihkan aseton lebih cocok untuk digunakan sebagai wick structure dalam heat pipe silinder. Metal foam yang dibersihkan aseton memiliki karakteristik hidrofilik yang dapat meningkatkan pergerakan kapiler dan sirkulasi fluida dalam heat pipe. Uji kinerja heat pipe mengusulkan bahwa resistansi termal optimum diperoleh pada kalor input 5W (2,47oC/W).en_US
