    Pemanfaatan Limbah Lateks Karet Alam dengan Pengisi Bubuk Eceng Gondok Sebagai Adsorben Minyak

    Abstract
    Processes of latex products always produce waste. Natural rubber latex waste is produced because during the processing, low quality products are formed and thus disposed as waste. Utilizing the natural rubber latex waste filled with water hyacinth as oil adsorbent may improve the waste value economically and could be applied on oil polluted aquatic ecosystem. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the process variable and factors affecting oil adsorption by the adsorbent. In this study, water hyacinth was dried, grinded to 100 mesh, and mixed with latex waste at concentration of 0 – 20%. Afterwards, the mixture was dried at 110 – 130 oC for 15 minutes and further reduced to mesh size of 40 then kept in desiccators. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent was matched against Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Analysis was carried out by batch process using grease as adsorbate at pH of 5 – 9, contact time of 5 – 25 minutes, and adsorbate initial concentration of 10 – 30 g/L. Results showed that addition of water hyacinth as filler for latex waste adsorbent enhanced oil adsorption capacity of the adsorbent
     
    Pemrosesan pada produk lateks karet alam selalu menimbulkan limbah. Limbah lateks karet alam biasa dihasilkan karena selama pemrosesan dihasilkan produk yang kurang baik sehingga selalu dibuang sebagai limbah. Pemanfaatan limbah lateks karet alam dengan pengisi eceng gondok sebagai adsorben minyak dapat meningkatkan nilai ekonomis limbah dan diaplikasikan pada ekosistem perairan yang tercemar minyak. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini ditujukan untuk meninjau variabel proses dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi adsorpsi minyak oleh adsorben. Dalam penelitian ini, eceng gondok dikeringkan, dihaluskan hingga 100 mesh, dan dicampur dengan limbah lateks pada kadar eceng gondok 0 – 20%. Kemudian, campuran dikeringkan pada suhu 110 – 130 oC selama 15 menit dan diperkecil hingga ukuran 40 mesh lalu disimpan dalam desikator. Daya adsorpsi adsorben dicocokkan terhadap persamaan isoterm Langmuir dan Freundlich. Analisis dilakukan dengan proses batch menggunakan minyak pelumas sebagai adsorbat pada pH 5 – 9, waktu kontak 5 – 25 menit, dan konsentrasi awal adsorbat 10 – 30 gr/L. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan penambahan eceng gondok sebagai pengisi adsorben limbah lateks meningkatkan kemampuan daya adsorpsi adsorben minyak.
