Efektivitas Teh Hijau Terhadap Penurunan Tekanan Darah dan Denyut Nadi Pasien Sebelum Ekstraksi Gigi Molar Mandibula di Departemen Bedah Mulut dan Maksilofasial FKG USU
Abstract
Tooth extraction is a process of removing tooth from the alveoli, where the tooth cannot be treated anymore. Patients often experience anxiety before the extraction procedure. Anxiety will be responded with some changes of vital signs such as increased blood pressure, pulse rate and breathing. Green tea contains catechins which can inhibit the activity of Angiotensin Converting Enzym (ACE) and blockade of α-1 adrenergic receptors. L-theanin in tea can also provide a calming effect on a person's mental. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of green tea to reduce blood pressure and pulse rate of patients before the tooth extraction. This study was a quasi experimental and using non-randomized pretest and posttest control group design. This study used 2 sample groups, each group consisting of 18 patients who would extract mandibular molars. In the treatment group will be given the provision of green tea steeping and the control group will be given warm water. Blood pressure and pulse rate measurements are done twice. The first measurement after the patient were given informed consent and the second measurement after 30 minutes after drinking green tea steeping and warm water. The results of this study were analyzed by Mann Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. In the treatment group there was a significant decrease in blood pressure and pulse rate compared to the control group with a value of p = 0,000 <0,05. Green tea steeping is effective in reducing blood pressure and pulse rate in patients before tooth extraction.
