“Efektivitas Ekstrak Bunga Telang (Clitoria ternatea L.) terhadap Bakteri yang Merupakan Faktor Risiko Perawatan Ortodontik: In Vitro

The use of fixed orthodontic appliances is associated with the accumulation of plaque,
thereby increasing the number of bacteria, such as Streptococcus mutans and
Staphylococcus aureus. The benefits and effectiveness of the pea flower as an
antimicrobial and antioxidant have also been widely reported. The aim of the study was
to determine the effectiveness of the telang flower extract against the bacteria
Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™.
Laboratory experimental research method with Post Test Only Control Group Design,
the sample used ethanol extract of telang flower which was diluted using DMSO to a
concentration of 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, Streptococcus mutans ATCC®
25175™ and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™. Diffusion method of Minimum
Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and dilution of Minimum Bacteriosid Concentration
(MBC) test were used to observe the antibacterial effectiveness of telang flower extract
against the two test bacteria. The results showed that the MIC concentration of telang
flower extract against Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ was <3.125% and MBC
concentration was 3.125%, while the MIC concentration of Staphylococcus aureus
ATCC® 29213™ was 50% concentration and MBC concentration was >50%. There
is an antibacterial effectiveness with a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) indicating a
significant difference Penggunaan alat ortodontik cekat berkaitan dengan akumulasi plak yang
menyebabkan bakteri lebih mudah berkembang biak sehingga meningkatkan jumlah
bakteri, seperti bakteri Streptococcus mutans dan Staphylococcus aureus. Manfaat dan
efektivitas bunga telang sebagai antimikroba dan antioksidan juga telah banyak
dilaporkan. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak bunga telang
terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ dan Staphylococcus aureus
ATCC® 29213™. Metode penelitian eksperimental laboratoris dengan Post Test Only
Control Group Design, sampel yang digunakan ekstrak etanol bunga telang yang
diencerkan menggunakan DMSO menjadi konsentrasi 3,125%, 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%,
50%, Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ dan Staphylococcus aureus ATCC®
29213™. Metode difusi uji Kadar Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan dilusi uji Kadar
Bunuh Minimum (KBM) untuk mengamati efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak bunga telang
terhadap kedua bakteri uji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan KHM ekstrak bunga telang
terhadap Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ konsentrasi <3,125% dan KBM
konsentrasi 3,125%, sedangkan KHM Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™
konsentrasi 50% dan KBM konsentrasi >50 %. Terdapat efektivitas antibakteri dengan
nilai p=0,000 (p<0,05) menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan.
