A Description of Kinds of Love in Maher Zein’s Selected Song Lyrics

Abstract

The discussion in this paper focused on a description of the kinds of love and love languages found in Maher Zein’s selected song lyrics. The purpose of writing this paper are to contribute and improve for the reader’s literary undertstanding about the kinds of love and love languages through song lyrics, this paper also can be reference for readers who want to do reseach on kinds of love and love languages through song lyrics, and then this paper have a purpose as an academic requirement to get degree of english diploma at the faculty of cultural studies, university of sumatera utara. This study applied qualitative descriptive method. The source data from this study are five selected song lyrics by Maher zein, they are : (1) open your eyes (2) for the rest of my life, (3) Hold my hand, (4) Number one for me and (5) One big family. While doing this study, the writer was analyzing the data by following steps : Reading five selected song lyrics from the internet as a reference to understanding the lyrics more and then the writer analayzing kinds of love and love languages that is contains from the selected song lyrics. The writer can be conclude that, there were four kinds of love in Maher Zein’s selected song lyrics, they are : (1) Agape (Unconditional love), (2) Phlia (Affectionate love), (3) Storge (Familiar love), and (4) Pragma (Enduring love). The writer also found four love languages in Maher Zein selected song lyrics, they are :(1) Words of affirmation, (2) Act of service, (3) Quality time, and (4) Physical touch.

Kertas karya ini difokuskan pada deskripsi tentang jenis-jenis cinta dan bahasa cinta yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu pilihan Maher Zein. Tujuan dari penulisan kertas karya ini adalah untuk berkontribusi dan meningkatkan pemahaman sastra pembaca tentang jenis cinta dan bahasa cinta melalui lirik lagu, kertas karya ini juga dapat dijadikan sebagai referensi bagi pembaca yang ingin melakukan penelitian tentang jenis cinta dan bahasa cinta melalui lirik lagu. Kertas karya ini juga bertujuan sebagai salah satu syarat akademik untuk mendapatkan gelar diploma di Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Sumatera Utara. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dari penelitian ini adalah lima lirik lagu pilihan Maher zein, yaitu: : (1) open your eyes (2) for the rest of my life, (3) Hold my hand, (4) Number one for me and (5) One big family. Selama mengerjakan penelitian ini, penulis menganalisis data dengan langkah-langkah sebagai berikut: Membaca lima lirik lagu pilihan dari internet sebagai referensi untuk memahami lirik lebih lanjut, kemudian penulis menganalisis jenis cinta dan bahasa cinta yang terkandung dari lirik lagu pilihan. Penulis dapat menyimpulkan bahwa, ada empat jenis cinta dalam lirik lagu pilihan Maher Zein, yaitu : (1) Agape (Cinta tanpa syarat), (2) Phlia (Cinta penuh kasih), (3) Storge (Cinta akrab), dan (4) Pragma (Cinta abadi). Penulis juga menemukan empat bahasa cinta dalam lirik lagu pilihan Maher Zein, yaitu: (1) Perkataan yang menyenangkan, (2)Tindakan Melayani, (3)Waktu yang berkualitas, dan (4) Sentuhan Fisik.
