Abstract

A Description of Plot used in Nella Larsen’s Novel Passing The purpose of this paper is to explain the plot structure and how to resolve the conflict in the story. In this paper, the method used the descriptive qualitative method with library research. The writer presents a range of conflicts, such as perceptions of uncertainty in friendships, difficulties in marriage, and threats to racial security. Based on the results of this paper, there is a plot structure, namely, introduction, inciting force, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. as well as internal and external conflicts. This is closely related to the nuances of the conflict, which starts from the introduction and strengthens the inciting force to the resolution of the conflict. The conflict is involved both internally and externally. Internal implies that the character is in conflict with himself, and external implies the individual's conflict with other individuals. Conflicts can be resolved with a big heart and by accepting reality.

Tujuan dari makalah ini adalah untuk menjelaskan struktur plot dan bagaimana menyelesaikan konflik dalam cerita. Dalam penulisan ini, metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan studi pustaka. Penulis menyajikan berbagai konflik, seperti persepsi ketidakpastian dalam persahabatan, kesulitan dalam pernikahan, dan ancaman terhadap keamanan rasial. Berdasarkan hasil tulisan ini, terdapat struktur plot yaitu, pendahuluan, gaya penghasut, aksi naik, klimaks, aksi turun, dan resolusi. serta konflik internal dan eksternal. Hal ini erat kaitannya dengan nuansa konflik, yang dimulai dari pengenalan dan penguatan kekuatan penghasut hingga penyelesaian konflik. Konflik tersebut terjadi baik secara internal maupun eksternal. Internal mengandung makna bahwa karakter berkonflik dengan dirinya sendiri, dan eksternal mengandung makna konflik individu dengan individu lain.
